I do not want to give to charity

I go to Panda Express about once a week. Every single time they ask me if I want to donate money to dying children. I used to just give them money, and round up. But now - I suppose I'm evil I've just not been doing it. And I'm getting tired of places like this asking me to give money after I've just purchased something.

The people with the bell...fine I guess...it's just kind of annoying & awkward asking me this at the cash register after I've just bought $300 worth of shit. You know damn well I have the money to donate.

There are tons of places doing this now. I'll get a sandwich somewhere and they'll be like - do you want to help dying children? I kind of just want to reply - I ****ing love dying children. They are the best kind. Thanks for ruining my day. I'm tired of them soliciting from me because all they want to do is be able to say in their commercials how much money they've raised for charity to in turn get more business to show the world just how much they really care!

I am a horrible person. I realize this.

I do charity on my own time. Every year I've helped at a soup kitchen or a salvation army drive. I just don't want to donate money at a business so they can brag about how much they did so they can become more profitable.

Agreed that it's getting really annoying. Even more so considering most of those places use this type of stuff to promote themselves. "Such and such business raised more than X dollars for dying kids" (by guilting our customers at the register and keeping x% for administration costs).

I only do it at Panda Express if the service is worthy. Some times the brats behind the counter are rubbish and the Mexicans cooking giving you weird looks. Sad!

It isn't charity when it is being used in a flagrant way to bolster a product, business or image. That's even a basic tenet in the Bible, Corinthians I believe. Not to get religious on anybody.

That said, it's a bit different when a sports team, athlete or celebrity does something charitable. Their image and/or organization is already well established. They are already prominent and well recognized members of their communities...it's more of a compassion thing in that case, shows love and appreciation for their fellow man. Well, that's how I feel about philosophically anyway.

It makes me a lot happier to see Patrick Mahomes giving back to the community than say Baskin Robins.

I actually kinda agree, I donate a fair amount every paycheck to Children's Hospital Charity. I shouldn't be nickeled and dime'd to death. Not only is Panda an offender but Diamond Shamrock, Best Buy, 7-11, King Soopers......on and on and on. Just let me donate on my own terms and don't make a public show if it.

One thing that I have heard about recently is 'paying it forward' when you are at a drive through. Apparently this is a thing during the holidays at some places, specifically Starbucks. I don't frequent Starbucks that often, but my wife does. I guess the routine is to pay the tab for the person behind you, and that continues throughout the line. This I find a bit vein. You have a vehicle and the means to purchase an overpriced Starbucks coffee, you shouldn't expect somebody to pay for your 10$ Soy Latte. LAME.
Eh most people that frequent Starbucks expect to pay between $7-10 for their drinks. If you just want a black coffee 7-11 is much cheaper

Most "charities" only make their ceo rich. I am also tired of being asked to donate every ****ing purchase I make. It used to be once in a while and I would do it, now it's everywhere, even self checkouts. I will give when i want to give to charities I like

And making it at home is even cheaper still. I make a pot of coffee each morning, fill up my travel mug before I go to work, and call it a day. I think I personally spend about 12 bucks per month on coffee on average...

I buy those 2.5-3LB bags of coffee at Costco, $15 or so. Usually lasts me a few weeks and the coffee isn't bad. I've had coworkers/friends that complain about being poor when I see them with their starbucks/dunkin in hand every single day. Well of course you are poor, you're terrible with money!

I give money to United Way from every paycheck. I participate in charity events from the NRA foundation (100% charity, does not go to lobbying or NRA) local charity drives, I write ad copy and help target charity events at my business.. I also never ever buy the little dollar charity hearts, or round up for charity, I dont donate when directly asked in any way for the most part. If I happen to have some change on me, ill drop it in the salvation army bucket.

With that, I don't ever think of the implications of this, does this mean I'm good? Bad?

Maybe its bad because I don't care either way I just kind of.. do whatever.

Point is, I don't lose any sleep or give myself any kind of pat on the back. I dont even think about it. Maybe you should try that?

I don't trust those businesses to be wise stewards of donations.
