Heart Rate extremely Elevated

Saw my regular physician for annual check-up on Monday. My resting Heart Rate was 110. BP normal at 121/77. I am scheduled to see the cardiologist next week. Anyone experienced problem with heart rate like this? I am 6 foot, 200 lbs. Frankly I am scared.

Yup. End result was a heart valve replacement which is surprisingly routine these days. Good luck...keep an eye on it until you go in.

My bp is usually higher than yours (thanks, chemo...) and my resting heart rate is usually around 90, give or take 4. My doc never said it was a problem, other than putting me on metoprolol to keep me from getting a stroke. The chemo would elevate everything even more without the bp med.

I hope it is nothing serious and there is an easy fix for you!

I'm always shocked at how high my resting heart rate is. I thought running a lot would make it low, but it's always in the 80 to 90 range.

I get a heart arrythmia occasionally that pushes it up. I've been told that it won't kill me, but it sure makes for a couple of unpleasant days when it flares up.

Layoff all caffeine and you will see a HUGE difference. You'd be surprised at how much caffeine you are putting in your system. Coffee,Pop,Tea and chocolate are the big ones. I am a huge Diet Dr. Pepper and Iced Tea Fan and my heart started palpitating and racing on a regular basis to the point it would wake me up at night. Understand this is after years of consuming a lot of it. Got scared went to the Dr. and he said lay off the caffeine and it should relieve the problem. It took about 3-5 days to see a marked difference and by 2 weeks I didn't feel it any longer.

Now I just drink non-caffeinated Tea and sip Pop sparingly just for the taste of the carbonation with meals every so often.

Possible AFIB or a bad heart valve? Doctor rule that out ??

Surprisingly not. I never get headaches at all. I am 54 and I can count on my hand how many headaches I have had my entire life. Now my wife is a different story, when she goes off caffeine it is migraines for her for the next 3 days.

(Shrug.) I went in with it and they basically listened with a stethoscope and said, "Get used to it. It won't kill you and it'll eventually fix itself." It happens occasionally and for 2 or 3 days I feel like I'm about 10 seconds from a heart attack and then it goes away. It's not fun, but I did some internet research on it and it basically said that a medical intervention is worse than just letting it play out.

I do worry that there's a problem there that hasn't been diagnosed. But at the same time, I ran 16 miles last Saturday and felt fine, so if I had a serious problem I think I'd drop dead before I hit 16 miles.
