For the average joe... "Hollywood" is anyone and any entity involved with the mass production of films. Most everyone understands that Simon Pegg is an Englishman who has spent more time sipping tea and eating scones than he has in actual Hollywood.

That said, it certainly doesn't look like a Star Trek movie, at least to me. |

There is little doubt in my mind that this movie is essentially... Star Trek: Briar Patch Drift. |

Such a shame for DS9 to get slighted solely because of how awful the first season and a half were.

Most TV series that perform poorly, both critically and with ratings, don't last six episodes, let alone, 30 episodes. I *tried* to like DS9 but it was boring. Maybe it became a better series later on but it lost me after probably 10 episodes and that was a struggle. I never connected with Voyager and I struggled to connect with Enterprise. Actually, the only way I could stomach Enterprise was during workouts. I forced myself to watch the first three seasons. The fourth season finally got to a point where it felt like Star Trek, only to be cancelled. |

The Vulcan chick in Enterprise had a great rack. It wasn't great enough to save the show, however.

Also on the topic of Avery Brooks and the hot takes currently prevalent in America right now: how was having him be the first and only show lead to not be a "captain" from the show's outset? It made sense within the consistency of the show, but gotdamn. Anyway, the show became great once Ira(?) Behr, Ronald Moore and Robert Hewitt Wolfe were given the a sizable hold on the reins because Berman et al were focused on Voyager. This list does a decent job of detailing which episodes are the ones one should watch to get a better handle on what DS9 brought to the table. Given the weaknesses of the first two seasons, I'd go so far as to suggest that anyone start with "The Maquis" two-parter and "The Jem'Hadar" in Season 2 to give DS9 a first time viewing, then focus on the S3 episodes of "The Search" parts 1 and 2, "Second Skin" "Defiant", "Improbable Cause", "The Die is Cast" and "the Adversary". If DS9 isn't your thing, then that's that. But if it is, go back to the aforementioned list and watch anything labelled "Engage!" in Seasons 1/2 for the underlying character development and then proceed with Season 4.

I always hated how 'Enterprise' looked shinier and newer than the original series despite being set before it. They could have done a better job of making it look more run down.

Plus, I never warmed up to the cast. Bakula was too much of a hardass the first three seasons and he wasn't very enjoyable to watch, for me. He was missing his usual charm in the role. |
