Gordon declining his option was a given. Now he can negotiate a better deal for himself (hopefully) with the Royals.

Everyone in the world knew he was declining the option. That doesn't automatically mean he's leaving, it just now allows him to sit down with the Royals to talk about a new contract.

I get all the sentimental stuff with Gordon, but I would rather keep Zobrist.

Good grief. There's no reason for him to accept a $14 million option, even if he's 100% certain he will be staying in KC.

Guess I'm the only one surprised by this. Course I have no clue how baseball finances work.

Baseball contracts are guaranteed. He'd be an idiot not to do this. Even if he just signs a 4 year deal, you're talking tens of millions that will set him up for life. If he took the 1 year option and then got hurt next year, he'd cost himself an unbelievable amount of money. This is going to be his one big payday.
