Bye bye Gordon

610 is reporting that Alex Gordon has declined his 2016 option and is a free agent

The Rick 11-04-2015 06:37 PM

Gordon declining his option was a given. Now he can negotiate a better deal for himself (hopefully) with the Royals.

TribalElder 11-04-2015 06:40 PM

At least he won a world championship here after so many shitty seasons

alnorth 11-04-2015 06:40 PM

Everyone in the world knew he was declining the option. That doesn't automatically mean he's leaving, it just now allows him to sit down with the Royals to talk about a new contract.

In other news water is indeed still wet.

I get all the sentimental stuff with Gordon, but I would rather keep Zobrist.

Fire is still quite hot, as well.

ILChief 11-04-2015 06:54 PM

Yankees?

Eleazar 11-04-2015 06:55 PM

Good grief. There's no reason for him to accept a $14 million option, even if he's 100% certain he will be staying in KC.

Guess I'm the only one surprised by this. Course I have no clue how baseball finances work.

DaveNull 11-04-2015 07:09 PM

Could have waited until next week though.

Free agency begins 5 days after the World Series ends, which is Friday.

Why? The club cut out Rios and Guthrie the day after the parade, so why shouldn't Gordon do the same.

Baseball contracts are guaranteed. He'd be an idiot not to do this. Even if he just signs a 4 year deal, you're talking tens of millions that will set him up for life. If he took the 1 year option and then got hurt next year, he'd cost himself an unbelievable amount of money. This is going to be his one big payday.
