Gordon declining his option was a given. Now he can negotiate a better deal for himself (hopefully) with the Royals.

Everyone in the world knew he was declining the option. That doesn't automatically mean he's leaving, it just now allows him to sit down with the Royals to talk about a new contract.

Not sure how that would work with Bird looking like a potential star this year. I guess they could put Bird at DH, but he's pretty young for that. Hosmer certainly is a much better defender.
