Pull the ripcord at CB?

Our current depth chart projection at CB, courtesy of Kent Swanson of AP Lab:

Outside: Bashaud Breeland
Outside: Charvarius Ward
Slot: Kendall Fuller
Backups: Keith Reaser, Rashad Fenton, Mark Fields
Practice Squad: D'Montre Wade, Tremon Smith

This was before training camp. In the two days since it's started, Breeland has suffered a relatively minor injury, and the rest of the squad has played... not great.

So... is it time to pull the ripcord?
  • We know the Vikings are stacked at CB, and Trae Waynes could be a valuable asset.
  • We also know the Giants are desperate at WR now, and there's a rumor they're eyeballing Demarcus Robinson. Their CB depth chart is reportedly okay. But I don't know these guys, other than Janoris Jenkins.
So the Chiefs can't really go out and get a stud at this point, but maybe they can add desperately-needed depth at the position and maybe a starter by trading off a 2020 3rd to the Vikings for Waynes and Robinson for the Giants #3 corner (let's just say -- Eli Apple? -- like I said, I have no idea).

CB depth chart would then be:

Outside: Bashaud Breeland
Outside: Trae Waynes
Slot: Kendall Fuller
Backups: Charvarius Ward, Eli Applie?, Reaser/Wade/Fenton/Fields/Smith

Thoughts?

It depends what they want, if you can flip a 3 or a 4 it's probably worth it, but also you're probably acknowledging at that point you think Waynes is a 1 because if you don't why would you trade for a guy you have to pay?

Who would you target from the Giants?

2 things:

1) The Vikings AREN'T loaded at CB. Hill's been suspended for 8 games and Hughes is coming off an ACL tear. Alexander is a slot CB only. They might have some depth there, yes, but they're maybe 1 CB heavy at this point and it doesn't take much for them to be damn thin in their own right. I don't think they have a pressing need to get rid of a CB and will gladly roll with Waynes/Rhodes/Alexander while Hughes knocks the rust off if the right offer doesn't come.

2) The guy I'd target from the Giants is Sam Beal but I'd need to see a few weeks of health from him first. Had a fluke injury last year but is already dealing with some nagging hamstring stuff in camp this year. I liked his talent heading into the Supplemental and he's young, cheap and under control for a bit.

That's exactly the kind of guy I'd be targeting with a D-Rob trade. A guy that can probably contribute a bit this year and could provide another long-term asset to a secondary that needs to stack some depth in a hurry with Fuller and Breeland approaching FA.

Reggie Ragland appears to be the weakest starter on that list, not the CB position.

Not a surprise when they're both positions we refuse to invest significant draft capital in. When's the last time we drafted an ILB earlier than the 4th or 5th round?

We were inches away from the SB with the absolute shit we had last year. This doom and gloom bs about our CB/LB situation is reeruned.
