Pull the ripcord at CB?

Our current depth chart projection at CB, courtesy of Kent Swanson of AP Lab:

Outside: Bashaud Breeland
Outside: Charvarius Ward
Slot: Kendall Fuller
Backups: Keith Reaser, Rashad Fenton, Mark Fields
Practice Squad: D'Montre Wade, Tremon Smith

This was before training camp. In the two days since it's started, Breeland has suffered a relatively minor injury, and the rest of the squad has played... not great.

So... is it time to pull the ripcord?
  • We know the Vikings are stacked at CB, and Trae Waynes could be a valuable asset.
  • We also know the Giants are desperate at WR now, and there's a rumor they're eyeballing Demarcus Robinson. Their CB depth chart is reportedly okay. But I don't know these guys, other than Janoris Jenkins.
So the Chiefs can't really go out and get a stud at this point, but maybe they can add desperately-needed depth at the position and maybe a starter by trading off a 2020 3rd to the Vikings for Waynes and Robinson for the Giants #3 corner (let's just say -- Eli Apple? -- like I said, I have no idea).

CB depth chart would then be:

Outside: Bashaud Breeland
Outside: Trae Waynes
Slot: Kendall Fuller
Backups: Charvarius Ward, Eli Applie?, Reaser/Wade/Fenton/Fields/Smith

Thoughts?

I dunno if it's leagues better, but I'd rather have Breeland over Nelson for sure.

The safeties have improved by 1000%. That’s going to help the CB’s immensely. Spags likes to play zone and rangy safeties make it work.

Not a surprise when they're both positions we refuse to invest significant draft capital in. When's the last time we drafted an ILB earlier than the 4th or 5th round?

I didn't realize that the Cowboys barely ever put Jourdan Lewis on the field last year and as of now, I don't really see him moving up that depth chart all that much.

What limited production he had in 2017 as a rookie was decent, which is why I'm shocked they basically told him to go **** himself in 2018.

Plus, he'd fit in with our team, as he was also accused of a domestic violence incident! He took it to court, pled not guilty, and the court ruled in his favor on all charges.

Wouldn't be all that expensive. He's just a depth guy, and the Cowboys have corners coming out their ass like Jerry's squirty shits after his morning Metamucil.

Probably not starting material, but ya'll are worried about D'montre Wade and Mark Fields seeing action this year, so this would be one way to prevent that.

Any CB on the field is going to be better with the substantial improvements at the safety position.
