What kind of wallet are you packing these days?

I'm in the market for a new wallet and I'm not sure where to head. You can buy cheap wallets for three bucks or you can spend $100+ on a wallet.

I've done a needs assessment, and decided the following:

I need enough room to hold approximately four cards: a couple of credit cards, a driver's license, and a health insurance card.

I need a place to hold cash, and preferably a hidden or non-obvious compartment. I'm a baby boomer so I will always carry cash because you never know when the Soviets will launch a nuclear strike and destroy civilization and we'll need paper money to exchange for cans of beans or survival knives. That's how boomers were raised, so don't question me on it.

It would be nice to have some other little compartment for miscellany, like my discount card for the grocery store that's 1/8 the size of a credit card.

I've historically carried my wallet in my right rear pocket, but I'm open to moving it to a front pocket.

I'm kind of intrigued by the phone case that doubles as a wallet, but that means that I'll likely need a new wallet whenever I get a new phone, and that seems wasteful.

What do you have? How do you like it?

I don't carry it around all of the time but when I go to the casino or somewhere to play poker I have to.

I've owned a couple of Walmart wallets over the years. They're the George brand. Well made with leather and inexpensive.

I've had my current bi-fold version for about five years.

I only carry a few cards and minimal cash. It's thin and shows very little wear at this point.

Edit: I just looked up the wallet I own. $7 at Walmart. It ain't no Dooney and Bourke, or whatever people spend stupid money on.

I like some of these hard wallets, but if I'm doing a front-pocket thing I feel like a soft wallet would be safer. I don't really want to fall down or something and take a metal item to the most sensitive parts of my body. Is this a realistic risk?

Buy a cheap wallet and use it when you go to the casino. These Ridge wallets are awesome.

There was a smart man many years ago that said:

Never buy expensive luggage, watches or wine. I'd throw wallets into the mix. It might have been missed because it's a freaking wallet.

I have a Serman Brands front pocket and it is a solid wallet. They can be found on Amazon. I had to stop using back pocket wallets because they caused issues with my sciatic nerve. Went to a front pocket and problem solved. It's also nice if I am in a formal situation with a suit on. The wallet fits great in the suit jackets inside pocket.

I carry a slim front pocket with money clip. It’s hard to find a good wallet, I have been looking for a few months. Great thread Rain Man

I’m traditional when it comes to wallets. Leather, bifold, rear pocket. I bought a Saddleback thin design many years ago, and it’s held up well. But despite my best efforts, it has swelled in thickness.

I just purged a bulky receipt, two gift cards, an expired insurance card, an expired ID, a discount card I don’t use, and 170 pesos.

It is still about 1-1/4” thick. I blame modern life.

I'm there with you and I also like those slide-in plastic dividers as chintzy as they are. I have always switched up between a tri and a bi fold.

Over the last several years I have gone with a stingray wallet. The outside of those things is impossible to wear out. They are reasonable and pretty much bullet proof. It's about the only thing I use EBay for anymore. Here's an example.
