Even though it failed...

I agree with us going for two at the end. Except for that last drive, our offense was non-existent in the 2nd half, and the Chargers were moving the ball at will. We would not have won in overtime.

Plus we had no men left on defense anyway. It'd been great to screw San Diego in their house with the conversion, but it didn't happen. I'm furious, but I don't blame the decision to go for it.

2. QB can throw it to the RB in the flat

3. QB can throw it to the WR/TE a little deeper

btw you have like 2 seconds to make the decision because of the free DE.

i would of much prefer to call a play like we did when we scored the touchdown.

Thigpen can look over the entire field and doesn't have to make a decision until the defense forces him to make a decision.

the Defense has to cover the quick slants, the fades, the fade stop, the run .... everything, which increases your chances.

but like i said .... i'm fine going for it.
Those are pretty good options with Thiggy at QB and TG in the endzone, but I see your point about using the entire field. I guess it's hindsight, and in that case I'd take my chances with that sort of play. Like someone said though, the game was over at halftime anyway.... stupid Herm.

I'm not sure that the break down of plays would show that we ran on every first and second down until the final 6 minutes.

However, what we did do was abandon the intermediate and deep routes, and allowed the Chargers to defend a short field.

Question: What is the right call to make if a team has a good defense?

Go for 2 pts or look to tie the game?

TIA

I just said first down, not second. We also went away from the no huddle up to that point in the fourth as well. It's basic Herm philosophy to shut it down at the half with any lead, and we did as expected, again. He says he wants to protect the defense, then does anything he possibly can to put pressure on them. He's a walking contradiction, with a smirk on his face all the while. He can't die enough deaths in my opinion.

the bootleg is only a weapon IF the defense is worried about the running play ..... nobody is afraid of our running game.

Even if we are only talking about first down, I still don't beleive he ran it every time.

But we agree that he went into a passive mode on offense after the first half and attempted to protect the lead, and that is a recipe for failure.

We outcoached the Chargers today.

I despise herm as much as the next guy, but do you not see the talent the respective teams fielded and yet we lost because of a long-snapper?

Herm sucks, Norv sucks worse.

What is funny about it, I turned and told my uncle that when Herm gave Norv the handshake at the end of the game. That was the closest to a superbowl ring Herm will ever get...

Damn I am funny!

To a point. But I'm not enamoured of the talent on the Chuggers as much as others are. Their O-line is questionable, and I think their secondary is terribly overrated. Phyliss Rivers is still a headcase that you never know what you'll end up with in any given game.
