Also much like spider ticks they can ride wind currents to a warm blooded animal or human to suck your blood.

To remove gently pull the tick as they have like a barb if you yank out their head will stay and that's as bad as a bite. They will release to a gentle pull as they don't want to be beheaded. Do not use heat or nail polish they will bite and could be bad. They say to wear rubber gloves or use tweezers who have that handy besides it cumbersome. Just wash hands well and wash and use alcohol or peroxide on the area of extraction.

Allergies are fascinating to me. I was incredibly lucky my whole life. I never had any sort of food allergy or even an allergy to pollen, unlike everyone else in my nuclear family.

Then one day I got stung on the arm by what I assume was a species of wasp. I'd been stung by a wasp before with no issue outside of local pain and swelling, but this time was different. I had a systemic reaction: hives, insane itching in the weirdest places (soles of my feet, my outer ear). Thankfully I didn't have to go to the hospital, but after doing research, the next time could be worse. It just depends on how my body reacts to the allergen.

That was about 6-7 years ago now but it's given me pretty bad PTSD. Anytime I try nuts, seafood, or any other food I've tried a million times that's known to cause serious reactions, I'll feel my throat tightening up or like I can't breathe well.

I don't know if it was a super mosquito, but I'm on a business trip right now that's slightly inside that super mosquito territory. I was spending a bit of time outside (work-related), and one night when I came in I noticed a big red swollen spot on the inside of my elbow. It was probably an inch in diameter but very irregularly shaped, like the island of Sicily.

My first reaction was that it looked like I'd burned myself, but I didn't remember anything happening. Then I thought maybe I'd touched some poison ivy or something.

After a couple of days when the swelling and redness started going down, it became apparent that it was a series of mosquito bites. You know how those little b******s will bite you several times in proximity if you don't notice.

I've had a lot of mosquito bites in the past, but I've never had something like that. It swelled up a whole section of skin in a manner that wasn't the typical round mosquito bite.

Arizona gets them for about 2 months during monsoon season and they were horrible this year... a few even got into the house and would bite me 3 or 4 times, just like that.

Something I figured I'd never see here, but those ****ers would find me from anywhere.

'Super mosquitoes' are apparently gallinippers. Pretty sure I was seeing midges this year (had to google "tiny fast flying mosquito ****ers").

Florida apparently released something like 500k genetically modified mosquitoes this year that will only produce (non-biting) males... maybe they can do the same for ticks, too. Screw the food chain, kill them all.

Spray your clothes with Permethrin. If you've done that they actually die the second they touch your clothes. I actually tested this on a live one I found last year. Just set it on my shirt and it curled up and died.

We keep a case of that stuff at work. While it cuts down incidents of ticks embedded in you it doesn't stop at all. Short sleeves will go right under the sleeve down collar etc. The strong deet will work some for those exposed skin areas until you sweat then it's game on.

What a weird reaction.

I enjoy the occasional good burger too much and would have to take Bob Dole's advice and figure out what pen I need to carry.

That sucks.
