I mean, without his injury last year, Kaepernick doesn't take over Alex Smith's spot, because Alex Smith was on fire last year when he went down.

I don't want to take away from harbaugh here, because he put a solid team together and coached them well, and deserves the credit, but he won two divisional championships with Alex Smith as his starting QB.

I see no reason why we couldn't do that here with a very similar offense in a less competitive division.
