If Pioli were anyone else ... or had a different pedigree, there's no doubt in my mind that Clark would have canned him by now.

I think one aspect of Clark's apparent hesitation has to do with the sheer head-shaking disbelief that Pioli could be this incompetent, Mr. KC Tattoo. I mean, who would have thought that the two-time (or is it three-time?) NFL Executive Of The Year is a madman, a buffoon, and a fraud?

I know there were a few Planeteers who had early doubts (see Mr. Dane McCloud‎), but it's probably fair to say that the vast majority of NFL observers considered Pioli to be the hottest GM commodity in the league. It's likely that Clark is torn between wanting to believe this is simply a string of incredibly bad fortune and the amazingly hard-to-swallow, stark reality that Pioli is a qualified nutcase.

I'm going to follow your logic on this Mr. FAX. Pioli showed him his rings and Clark and the rest of us mostly just wanted to believe we can achieve the same glory. That and we just came off the high of fireing Carl Peterson wich was a long time comming so any one who came here was going be given a do diligence to turn this team around for what we all want and that is Super Bowls. But first we got to get a lead in year four & our expectations were too high. I think it is bewilderment to say the least.

It's like a form of cognitive dissonance ... you see plainly that Pioli has screwed the pooch without even purchasing the poor pooch dinner or taking the pooch to a movie. Nevertheless, the totality of our situation seems almost too horrendous to believe ... particularly considering that Pioli was so well respected around the league. When the brainpan is faced with two completely contradictory sets of evidence, it kinda shuts down. Maybe that's what's happened to Clark's brainpan?
