Nothing wrong with insulating. It'd be one year tops of low snap counts because HB and Williams aren't gonna be here beyond one year.
Imagine Veech getting Williams, trading sneed to provide draft capital to move up and draft a stud LT?

Then the rest of the draft they could go a few different ways to plug a few holes, and plug some future holes.

They come out with a LT, TE, WR, LB, CB, DT/DE would be very exciting

Ideally speaking yes it is. 1st and 2nd round picks should be starters for the most part.

Usually, yes.

But I would have no problem grabbing a prototype Left Tackle prospect in the 2nd and having him as a backup for 1 year.

That's all well and good, but now you've burned a contract year, and are going into year 2 with questions on if the guy can even play.

It's not a wise use of resources.

Those are silly expectations. There's a 50/50 chance your 2nd round pick is going to be a bust, more or less expecting a day 1 starter.

NFL free agents 2024: The best players still available at each position

Wide receivers

Mike Williams, Chargers
Tyler Boyd, Bengals
DJ Chark, Panthers
Odell Beckham Jr., Ravens
Michael Thomas, Saints
K.J. Osborn, Vikings
Josh Reynolds, Lions
Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Chiefs
Michael Gallup, Cowboys
Hunter Renfrow, Raiders
Allen Robinson, Steelers
Isaiah Hodgins, Giants
Randall Cobb, Jets
Parris Campbell, Giants
Mecole Hardman, Chiefs
Laviska Shenault, Panthers
Van Jefferson, Falcons
Richie James, Chiefs
Deonte Harty, Bills

Williams shouldn't last long after his release. Boyd leads the leftover slot charge. Beckham is looking for another chance after flashing in Baltimore. Thomas will hope to revive his career out of New Orleans.

Offensive tackles

Tyron Smith, Cowboys
Trent Brown, Patriots
David Bakhtiari, Packers
Mekhi Becton, Jets
Donovan Smith, Chiefs
Charles Leno Jr., Commanders
Yosh Nijman, Packers
Brandon Parker, Raiders
Andre Dillard, Titans
Chuma Edoga, Cowboys

Tyron Smith and Bakhtiari still have something worthwhile left here for the left side with their Pro Bowl pedigrees. Brown is a versatile option. Becton still has the potential to be a reliable starter.

Running backs

JK Dobbins, Ravens
Ezekiel Elliott, Patriots
D'Onta Foreman, Bears
Alexander Mattison, Ravens
Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Chiefs
Jerick McKinnon, Chiefs
Rashaad Penny, Eagles
Cam Akers, Vikings
Latavius Murray, Bills
Matt Breida, Giants
Boston Scott, Eagles
Damien Harris, Bills
Kareem Hunt, Browns
Joshua Kelley, Chargers
Cordarrelle Patterson, Falcons

Elliott and Foreman have the most appeal as savvy power backs. Most of the rest are change-of-pace options or depth chart fliers.

Edge rushers

Chase Young, 49ers
Jadeveon Clowney, Ravens
Mike Danna, Chiefs
Derek Barnett, Texans
Romeo Okwara, Lions
Yannick Ngakoue, Bears
Charles Harris, Lions
Carl Lawson, Jets
Randy Gregory, 49ers
Emmanuel Ogbah, Dolphins

Young and Clowney still have plenty of appeal as situational pass rushers and have been getting plenty of interest. There's not much to see with the rest.

Defensive tackles

Calais Campbell, Falcons
Austin Johnson, Chargers
Taven Bryan, Colts
Teams in need of this position have snatched up the better tackles.

Linebackers

Jerome Baker, Dolphins
Tyus Bowser, Ravens
Isaiah Simmons, Giants
Cody Barton, Commanders
Denzel Perryman, Texans
Leighton Vander Esch, Cowboys

With Tyrel Dodson and Devin White finding new homes, none of the rest are guaranteed to sign anywhere.

Cornerbacks

Steven Nelson, Texans
Stephon Gilmore, Cowboys
Xavien Howard, Dolphins
J.C. Jackson, Patriots
Adoree' Jackson, Giants
Tre'Davious White, Bills
Patrick Peterson, Steelers
Avonte Maddox, Eagles
C.J. Henderson, Panthers
Rock Ya-Sin, Ravens
Levi Wallace, Steelers

The names are bigger than the remaining games here, but there are a few plug-and-play veteran outside starters who will be picked up later.

Safeties

Justin Simmons, Broncos
Jamal Adams, Seahawks
Julian Blackmon, Colts
Eddie Jackson, Bears
Marcus Maye, Saints
Quandre Diggs, Seahawks
Jayron Kearse, Cowboys
Adrian Amos, Texans
Mike Edwards, Chiefs
Keanu Neal, Steelers
Nick Scott, Bengals
Tashaun Gipson, 49ers
Micah Hyde, Bills

Simmons leads a group of once solid all-around options who can now provide only limited playmaking returns.

Take good football players like Creed and Bolton over guys like Skyy Moore and your chances are higher.

There are no sure things in the 2nd but you can reduce the risk.

Amegadjie is someone you could reasonably draft on LT tools in the 2nd round and stash for a year.
