Better team: 2019 or 2018?

The data says they’re identical, so you’ll have to explain some reasons beyond stats why one was better than the other. (“We got Spags now!” = not a reason)

Revisionist history for sure.

The chances of facing New Orleans are lower this year

Packers aren’t special

Niners are good but have fallen off

The real monster is in the AFC-Baltimore

It's not hard to do the math there. This team has performed better when taken as a whole, somehow, despite all the injuries and the difficulty of the schedule.

He also quoted a bunch of defensive stats that are drastically improved.

Which tracks with common sense. Overall quality of this team is about the same, but they’re more rounded and don’t have to win track meet style.

They have a chance to win one-score games when they DONT have the ball last. That wasn’t really the case last year.

We scored at will last year. To the point when we’d settle for a FG I was surprised. When we’d punt I damn near fainted.

Holy ****ing bandwagon. If we win the superbowl this year I'll be surprised as hell. Last year was it and we know it. No shit head defensive player going offside for a good team.

Edit: Just to clarify. The Ravens are going because their defense doesn't suck. Whether they win or not for the AFC I don't care. Unpredictable QB and a good D will get out of the AFC.

What the **** is this dumb shit?

News flash:

The Ravens defense allows only 1.6 less pts per game than the Chiefs. The Chiefs also had the tougher schedule.

I swear some of you don’t actually watch NFL football outside of the Chiefs.

I’m not even saying the Chiefs are going to win.

That’s not the point.

You are talking like the Ravens defense is so much better than ours. It’s not. This isn’t 2018.

And what exactly about Lamar Jackson is “unpredictable”?

He’s going to run a ton. He’s as predictable as it gets.

Our defense to me has been turn off the TV for the first 6 games bad (AND LAST YEAR IS WALK AWAY FOR ALL 16 WHICH I DID BAD) . Yes it has improved. Let's see how it works against playoff teams.

I think the 2019 team is better for a couple reasons. First, it's a more balanced team. While the offense hasn't put up the points this year, they didn't have to because the defense, especially in the last few games, is much better. Second, it seems like everyone has bought into the ultimate goal, a SB championship. There's no unwilling spirits, no haggling over contracts, it's about the rings.

Last years team wouldn’t have survived all of the injuries this years team faced. Not with a tougher schedule as well.

If Reid made a better play call on 3rd down at the end of the Packers game, and that ridiculousness at the end of the Titans game doesn't happen, we are 14-2 and have HFA as the one seed.

The offense has had it's ups and downs, but there's no question that the WR is better than last year's with the addition of Hardman alone. Watkins being healthy for more of the season has also been a plus. The OL might be worse overall, though IMO, an argument can be made that it's at least as good as it was last year in just these last couple weeks. And the running game isn't what it was early last year, but we just don't have a bellcow RB right now. But the running game has improved, in the last few weeks, over what it was in the first half of the season.

However, in the area of being able to produce game-winning clock-eating drives this team is far and away a much better team over last year. We now have an offense that can put away a game by moving the sticks and chewing up clock at the end of a game, something they had trouble with last year. One of the first examples of this was at the end of the Lions game this year. That last drive that finished with a TD to leave just :30 seconds on the clock was something I just didn't see out of the Chiefs offense last year.

But the real difference between the 2018 and the 2019 squads has been the defense. The 2019 defense is head-and-shoulders a better unit than last year's. And I'm including the DC in that statement. Sutton was glacially slow at making adjustments, whether it was in-game, or from week to week. Spags and co. have been much better in that department, and at times down right wizardly. An amazing feat considering that we don't have a top-15 MLB or a shut-down CB on the roster.

And yet somehow this defense has managed to produce more than one game-winning performance that saved the team when the offense was sputtering at the close of a game. At least three, IIRC. And even in our losses, the defense performed better than the 2018 defensive unit overall.

As for Mahomes supposed regression, IMO, this isn't a thing. Pat's numbers are down for several reasons, including injuries, but also because he hasn't been relied on to save the team's defense nearly as much this year. He isn't having to get into shoot-outs in 2019, as he did in 2018. In fact, I'm trying to remember the last shoot-out we've been in this season. The MIN game maybe, but Pat didn't play in that game.

But if we go back and look at his numbers from the first 3 weeks of this season, he was in fact on pace to throw for 6,000 yards and 55 TDs, remember? It was his ankle sprain that slowed him down, not his failing abilities/talent.

Bottom line, I don't think there's anything wrong with Pat right now. He can throw the ball as well as he did last year, and maybe better in certain situations, and his ability to read defenses is at least as good as it was last year, IMO better, and his real-time analysis/decision-making is just as good as it was last year.
Do ever just shut the **** up?
