Steelers receiver Antonio Brown did not play in the season-ending game against the Cincinnati Bengals because he elected to sit out practice last week after an unspecified heated dispute with a teammate, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has learned.

Several sources said the Steelers’ decision to not play Brown against the Bengals had nothing to do with any type of knee injury.

The disagreement occurred Wednesday morning during a routine walk-through practice that precedes their regular afternoon practice on the South Side. Brown became disgusted and threw a football in anger at one of his teammates, several sources said.

After that, Brown did not practice the rest of the week. According to a source, it was Brown’s decision not to practice with his teammates.

He did not attend Saturday’s walk-through practice and skipped the Saturday night meeting at the team hotel — the latest in missed meetings by the All-Pro receiver. Brown was never on the field for the start of the game against the Bengals and left Heinz Field at halftime, according to multiple sources.

According to several sources, Brown showed up at Heinz Field expecting to play against the Bengals. That surprised several players, including one who called the situation “embarrassing” and “the worst I’ve seen.” That player said the entire situation and the way it was handled affected his desire to play in the game.

Antonio Brown‘s teammates aren’t as trusting as his coach.

On the same day that Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told reporters he has no question to doubt the veracity of Brown’s claim that he had a knee injury last week, multiple unnamed Steelers players tell Aditi Kinkhabwala that they don’t believe Brown was injured. Which means that they think Brown quit on the team, days before a de facto playoff game.

That doesn’t bode well for Brown’s future with the team. If he has lost the locker room, there’s no reason to bring him back.

Tomlin has to stick with that story. He has to maintain the fiction that he thought AB had a legitimate injury. If he doesn't, he's admitting to lying on the injury report.

Tomlin told reporters today that "I told AB to have an MRI done" which is most likely utter bullcrap since head coaches don't typically hand out personal medical advice. Instead, they defer to the medical staff for recommendations of that nature. Considering how manic AB is about his personal health, the fact that he never had the MRI is all you really need to know.

I doubt that the NFL will do anything in this case since they seem to adore Tomlin and Stooler ownership, but I have little doubt that he lied on the injury report. At this point, Tomlin's credibility is so paper-thin he could wipe with it.

I can see lots of teams doing it. I don't think I'll agree with any of them that do. If I'm the Jets I don't want this guy anywhere near my young QB. And the Raiders? AB is 30. They are nowhere near contending.

The closest thing that would make sense would unfortunately probably be the Patriots. Would think the Steelers would avoid that, but they aren't a division rival so I doubt it's out of the question. Plus that sounds too much like a reward. They should be trying to stick him somewhere like Arizona.

This is spot on. What bugs me is the Tomlin will get away with it, the same way he got away with interference on the Jacoby return years ago. He should have faced some major discipline for that incident.
