Bed Bugs / Advice
I have a handicapped child who receives nursing during the week...he's 18 and we've never had this kind of issue before...but seemingly a new nurse has brought bed bugs into our home...took us a while to figure out, but took him to the dermatologist yesterday. Got up around 3AM and found a couple bed bugs on him.
I've looked into the pros and they want an a ton with little to no guarantee. I'm reading that once you have them, you really can't totally get rid of them...pisses me off. Anyone deal with this who can give some advice? It's fairly early in the infestation; getting bit about two weeks...bites getting more and more pronounced. Thanks in advance. |

I'd soak your whole house with a thick layer of anti-freeze, just to be sure.

Closing the barn door after the horse is out. Nurse feels terrible. From my research for the past couple of days, some people don't get bit but can carry them in their backpacks or luggage or whatever and never know it...and these little bastards can live a year without feeding.

From what I hear the best way to deal with them is to have a pro hit your baseboards and areas where they live with liquid nitrogen. Freezes them to death...

That's interesting; everybody else is talking about heat. I'm in AZ and if it were summer, I'd haul all his stuff out in the yard for a day...

Really see what Orkin would say. They are a bitch...but heat kills 'em. Launder everything in hot water and dry in heat, send out to dry clean. Send nurse the bill. |

Bed bugs exposed to 113°F will die if they receive constant exposure to that temperature for 90 minutes or more. However, they will die within 20 minutes if exposed to 118°F. Interestingly, bed bug eggs must be exposed to 118°F for 90 minutes to reach 100% mortality.

If these are still an issue by summer I'm going to do just that. Right now they're just in one room...I'll tape off that room, close the vent and have a couple of heaters blow into that room...I'm considering all possibilities right now...
