There’s no room on the Kansas City Royals bandwagon for St. Louis Cardinals fans.
I was born in KC, but I didn't grow up there. I'd like to get your thoughts on this. It gave me a much higher understanding of Reaper's frustration with Cardinals fans. Is this an accurate portrayal of the life of a Royals fan in KC? I know it may be a long read for some of you mongos, so no worries if you don't have the attention span.

Yeah, I don't share the sentiment because I don't have the experience. It does give me some insight into Reaper's deal though. I can't blame him at all if that's what he dealt with, and he's assured me it absolutely is what he's dealt with.

This guy seems overly focused on all the wrong things. Are Cardinal fans rooting for the Royals now? I can't imagine even noticing something like that. THE ROYALS ARE IN THE WORLD SERIES! How can anybody be bitter or focused on who else is cheering?
I've been a Royals fan all my life and my attitude is "come one, come all". It's a love fest, and all are welcome. There are a lot of fans who just love the story and this team has endeared itself to them. They want a part of it. Cool. If the Royals pick up some new fans based on their success and style of play, then that's even better. More positive mojo. |

It's something folks who went to Mizzou or Mo State or CMSU or etc etc have to deal with. The vast majority of people in this state (apart from the KC radius) are StL Cards fans and it'll always be that way and for good reason. Since I've lived in KC much of my life and went to KU where it was 98% Royals fans, I didn't experience much of what he describes.

As a casual fan of baseball, I have always had more than one team I rooted for. Royals have always been #1 followed by the cardinals, braves and Rays. I have to admit I was really hoping for a Royals / Cardinals World Series

Just to clarify, while I do like this essay about Royals fandom, I didn't write it. It does closely reflect the experiences growing up that me and many of my friends had, and that I've observed in the wild happening to strangers. It's one thing to be at a sports bar and have a Cards fan rub your nose unsolicited about how inferior the Royals are; you kind of expect some banter in that setting. But to be out at an amusement park or a shopping mall and see adults be all "Sure you don't want to wear a Cardinals hat?" or "You know that St. Louis is so much better, right?" to eleven year old kids is ridiculous.

You would have to seriously lack a heart to not be pulling for the Royals, unless you are a Giants fan. This is what makes sports great. All of the high payroll teams like the Tigers, Red Sox, Yankees, Angels, sitting at home, and a team with a ton of young talent, winning the way baseball is supposed to be won.
If I weren't a Giants fan, I would have my ass chicks firmly on this bandwagon pulling for the Royals. They don't have a hateable guy on the roster. I can still remember what was it two years ago when the Royals had the All star game, booing the shit out of Robinson Cano for not putting Billy Butler on the home run derby team.

Ditto, I don't care if you are a fairweather fan. It has never bothered me, and it's especially true since i met someone whose sole purpose in life is to hate on bandwagon fans...The Dudes a Yankees/Giants(NFL) fan too. LOLZ

If I hadn't seen it so consistently throughout my life I'd be able to pass it off as isolated incidents.
