Dotel is what, 33ish? Has a history of injury problems? Still has yet to achieve 100 saves in his entire career?

You make no sense.

Dotel wouldn't have been around next year, so the only reason to keep him is to have him for the stretch run this season. Since they won't be contending, what's the point?

Some conjecture is that Dotel is willing to re-sign here in '08. So we'd rent him to Atlanta and then get him back later.

At the same time it's not exactly great to argue "hey since he isn't coming back take any scrub you can get" which is what your argument is...

Why would KC want a 34 year old closer next year? He might have been willing to re-sign, but would KC be willing to re-sign him?
