Who is still on the Alex Smith bandwagon?

Since the Denver game many of the Smith apologists threw up the white flag and surrendered to reality. I was wondering how many brave souls are left circling the wagons in defense of Alex. Who still thinks Smith is good enough of a QB to lead a team to the Super Bowl? Sandy? Saccapoo? Marcellus? Bueller?

Jamaal's got more rushing yards than all but three backs and more TDs than any not named Devonta Freeman.

Show yourself out, please.

... and yet, he is currently ranked 27th in the league for success rate. Good thing he can break the occasional big run. That sure does mask how poorly the run blocks are most of the time.

Take your arbitrary ranking and shove that shit.

He had game-high long runs of 13 yards in the games against Houston and Green Bay.

In the Broncos game he had the 34-yarder. If you throw that out he still averaged a healthy 4.6 YPC.

In the Bengals game he had a 24-yarder. If you throw that out he still averaged 5.1 YPC.

Success rate.

4th in rushing yards and 2nd in TD's when facing stacked boxes all game isn't successful enough?

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Today I walked past a copy of the Star's sports section laid out with the huge headline "Chase begins". I was kind of excited, and then I realized the headline had nothing to do with Alex Smith getting benched.

There are no stats that support Alex Smith fortunately.

11-15 in his last 26 games, dead last in QBR, 26th in DYAR and 28th in DVOA, 30th in TD percentage, 33rd in sack percentage....if anyone else on the team had those warts to bear you'd be screaming bloody murder.

I wanted to believe but a Reid/Smith combo just can't work. Reid's offense works if you have a QB that can read a defense pre-snap and take advantage of matchups with passes downfield. That keeps the short stuff open. Look at how many of Rodgers passes are short. It would shock a lot of people but he makes a ton of short passes and piles up on YAC. They work because he'll destroy you if you have a bad matchup and he looks to the big play first. Smith is timid and will only hit you AFTER you get open. Almost no anticipation. That's why our big plays are almost always crossing routes. We won't go anywhere with him. We'll look better the next few games against weaker competition, but if we're fortunate enough to actually win enough games to get into the playoffs, we'll be quickly outclassed.
