Per 810: Chiefs tried to trade back up into 1st round

And they are looking to move up in the 2nd.

They think Dalvin Cook is the target.

We could address the ILB or CB with the 3rd round pick and throw dice at the other position with the 5ths and below. I would lean CB in this case since Dorsey seems to be able to find LBs off the scrap heap that are really productive.
We don't have two 4th round picks.

Well piss. I don't think our 4thand one of our 5ths (assuming we have 2 of those) is enough for us to move up.

I don't want to give away any more picks next year...just means that tonight is going to be exciting!

And yet 30+ front office types took a look at him and/or had an opportunity to trade up for him and chose to put too much stock in this clear superstar talent you see....

Wonder why that may be?

He's not a top 20 player. He's an average RB in an era where average RBs are completely fungible.

He's Melvin Gordon.

I've seen several updated mocks in which the Chiefs take a CB in the second round, whether it's one of the Florida, Colorado and Washington kids.

Even though it was discussed last year, Dorsey's clear miss on KeiVarie Russell is an absolutely shame, as any CB selection tonight is basically a do-over and a waste of valuable resources.

The Russell pick is why sometimes picking someone who is an ass can backfire.

I'd rather have Alvin Kamara, Jamaal Williams or Chris Samuels than Cook.

As mentioned earlier, too much weirdness surrounds him for my taste.

No arguing though. A RB like Cook would clearly ensure that the KC running back stable is covered.
I shouldn't have used the term 'trash heap'

I have a bad habit of exaggerating to emphasize a point.

The more our offense is struggling, the less likely they are to put Mahomes in early in his career. If the rest of our offense is playing well they will feel more confident in trying to upgrade the QB position early on. JMO

Doesn't Cook have injury concerns as well as character concerns?

We might want to go ILB or CB first, then another RB later. We really don't want to miss on this one.

I don't know if he was an "ass" but he absolutely sucked in preseason, which is why I called for cutting him two weeks before Dorsey actually cut him.

It's not the "end all", because Dorsey, once again, redeemed himself with Terrance Mitchell via the waiver wire, but I'd rather add a CB in the 4th than in the 2nd.

I don't even know what Curtis Samuels is, he's like another Ty Hill, Percy Harvin type who has no true position. I seriously doubt he could be a RB for more than 5 carries a game in the NFL.

Aaron Rodgers went 24th in the same draft Alex Smith went first in. Don't assume these GM's are geniuses who know exactly what they are doing. Some dumbass last night traded up to get Truibisky.

Cook slipped for a lot of reasons - his combine was meh, his interviews stunk, and concerns about character and injuries, both of which are way overblown. Seeing his 40 time being held against him is laughable. He gets the edge with ease and runs away from defenses once he's through the line. He'll be a stud as long as he's on a team that can run block a bit.

Oh, I hear ya. Smith fan or not.. I strongly caution against going the 2012 SF route. Let the kid truly evolve until he's ready. Kaep was thrown in.. even after time to learn.. and relied too strongly on his athletic instincts.. instead of the QB fundamental instincts you want them to evolve into.

Don't settle for potential short-term gain. BUILD A DYNASTY with an Aaron Rodgers-ish, ELITE-ly grown QB.

He's a dynamic athlete that could line up at RB or WR and cause headaches for opposing defenses.

We've already got one of those. We don't need an entire team of them.
