I don't have a problem with guys at the end of their career taking less to go to a team to try to win a championship, especially if they don't have a ring. Players do it in the NFL as well.

because two guys that were still top 25 NBA players came to a team, for vet min. deals, to team up with the 2 best players in the NBA for 1 year to steal a championship to pad their careers
That's why. And I hated the Boston big 3, and I hated the Heat big 2 + Bosh as well. Seriously. I was enamored with LeBron when he was in Cleveland and I ****ing hated him for those first 2 years in Miami because of that. ...I hated Dwight to LA. I hated what Carmelo did to Denver. I'm going to hate what happens with KD in OKC if he recovers (eventually). These guys don't need big markets or super teams to make a fortune. Give small market franchises a chance. There is absolutely no reason why they can't put a franchise tag in the NBA. Or a hard cap. I don't care if the hard cap is $200M and you can start paying guys their actual value (LeBron = $60M). Or make it so you cannot make a trade, under any circumstance, if you're over the soft cap. I'm just tired of trade exceptions, Brandon Haywood's, and the "super team" concept. I don't think a team like the Spurs should be able to add a max level player when they have Duncan and Kawhi with 5 other really good role players ... just because Duncan decides to play for what the 8th guy on Cleveland is going to make. |

are you really going to reference the age of Malone and Payton and ignore what they still were when they came to the Lakers? Payton was still at his peak. He was coming off a 21 PPG / 5 RPG / 9 APG / 2 SPG defensive All-NBA 1st team season. And he came over for the mid-level exception or vet. min (I forget). Malone still posted a 21/8/5 with 2 SPG line as well. This was done for 1 reason. To steal a championship. They were supposed to challenge 72 wins, too. They were the heaviest betting favorites preseason in NBA history, and still heavily favored to beat the Pistons in the Finals despite Malone's injury. It was ridiculous. ...and you guys, like usual, are pretending that I didn't hate the Heat/Celtics super teams. |

I'm pretty sure Karl Malone could probably still go out there next week and average 20/8. He was a complete beast and kept himself in unbelievable shape. But like Hootie said these super teams never seem to quite work out.
The Celtics did, but they actually traded for Allen and Garnett. I don't know why that makes a difference, but in almost every sport it seems to work out better when you trade for a superstar. Building a super team through FA rarely seems to work. Maybe because guys get too fat and happy? I don't know why. |

I also just looked up Payton's stats his last good season was the year before he played in LA..he didn't average over 14 points in any season after 02-03 I'm not ignoring you hating the other teams..I was just curious why you thought them going to LA was worse |
