Well with technology advancing and social media et al, what you see now is a surge of otherwise unknown comical minds find new avenues of getting big in the comedy business.
It used to be back in the day, if you wanted to make it big in the comedy industry, SNL is your career launching pad. It's just not that way anymore, and better minds and acts go somewhere else, thinning out the what could be a SNL talent pool. pretty stoned, but i think it makes sense.
