The reason you have the incentives is because there is usually a price that will convince somebody to leave. If he said no, you up the incentive until someone is willing to take it.

This guy is a paying customer. What if he was closing a 10 million dollar deal? Or if he had a two night stay at an expensive resort? Or what is he was tending to a family emergency? The idea that you can sign up for something then make plans on the reasonable expectation of service delivery, and then the airline can completely renege on those services purely for their own profit is a beyond terrible practice and I'm ecstatic it's being exposed. That's why you up the incentive to make someone leave voluntarily.

We aren't talking about a non paying customer. Or a customer misbehaving. We are talking about a person who bought a ticket, depended on that service being delivered. On the flip side, you have an airline who promised to deliver a service and later refused it against the customers will purely to pocket a few hundred bucks. Yeah, that's an easy one.
