The second worst job I ever had was being a janitor in a KC hospital. One of my jobs was to empty the autoclave waste in the lab. An autoclave is a big machine that looks like a torpedo tube. It's a high pressure, high heat machine that is used to kill bacteria and germs. They would take all these biopsies, and blood samples and body parts and god knows what else and steam heat them, then throw it in the trash. Nasty Nasty Nasty.
That was bad, and the infamous brown washcloth that would end up in the dirty laundry was bad too... gag from the stench.... |

It was for a credit card that knowingly pre-approved people with horrible credit for unsecured credit cards. They'd get the card in the mail, not read the fine print and then go out and make charges. The fine print stated that once you made a charge on the account.....the company would tack on a bunch of bullshit fees. I'm talking statement fees, processing fees...just a bunch of bullshit. People would call in to cancel the card and find out that they were legally responsible for the fees the second that they used that card. Say you were approved for a $500 limit. Those people would go out and charge $450 to that card the second they got it. We added fees on and now they're over the limit. Well now you've got over the limit fees on top of the fees that we just added to your account. I've been called every name in the book and been threatened over the phone multiple times.

I guess I kind of get people who don't pay businesses back and their bills, but if you **** over a buddy, acquaintance or single individual. There is a special place in hell for those people. I think more people should be buried in the desert if they owe debt to people. If you owe someone a large sum of money, and you get found in a ditch. I really don't even have any pity for you.

Mid to late 1980s. Teen. Massachussetts instituted the Bottle Bill for recyclables. I worked in a liquor store, where we had to take back any product we sold, which meant empty beer cans and bottles, soda cans, and soda bottles.
Oh, let me count the ways: - Stinky cans and bottles that weren't washed out. Ever smell moldy beer? Not pleasant. - Stinky people bringing in the cans and bottles. Homeless street people. By law, we had to take 'em. - Cockroaches. Everywhere. Especially in bottles from (not to stereotype, but) Asians for some reason. Nothing like having to check your cuffs and pockets for tiny hitchhikers. People would slam a case on the counter and the little ****ers would literally run OUT of the case AT me. However, the job did have its perk: as much booze as you could drink without getting caught. Luckily I only worked the bottle return counter for a year. Then I left and came back a year later and worked in the beer chest, stocking the shelves and filling up the chest. Even MORE free booze, and the cockroaches moved verrrrrrry slowly in there (mental note: cockroaches DO NOT like it when it's 45-55 degrees). Left again, came back again, this time as a shelf-stocker/pricer/cashier. Best job of the three there, since I got to hang around the coutner and flirt with the MILFs who also worked the register. Since that liquor store, I've worked for store chains (Underground Camera which later became Ritz Camera; Electronics Boutique), science musems (Boston, Tampa, Syracuse), and now a movie theater chain. And let me tell you, every single one of those treat(ed) me like shit. Few if any bonuses, no Christmas cards, no "thanks" for a job well done. The liquor store? Every employee got a free bottle of booze, a free turkey, and $50 on Thanksgiving, and a free bottle of booze and $100 on Christmas. For the mid to late 1980s, working a shit job for shit pay, that was pretty damn nice. |
