Make plans on doing everything possible to improve the OL, or cut/trade Alex by Thursday.

This OL is currently a big pile of shit that few if any QBs can accomplish much behind. Adding Maclin would be wonderful, but still.. everything starts in the trenches.

No OL = no QB = WRs basically useless

Reid is a play design guy. Trick the defense is what he tries to do. Maclin will be really helpul and I am sure he will draw up plays that get him the ball. He can do what Bowe couldn't. We now three burners on the field that can catch and fly down field. DAT, Maclin and JC, and also that short midget they kept over Avery and Jenkins.

Makes perfect sense to me and it only enhances the hatred for that piece of shit.

Exactly. People bitch about Bowe being open and not getting the ball, but they don't realize that most of those plays were never designed to actually throw to Bowe. He was a diversion. With Maclin, Andy will create more designed plays to get him the ball... because Maclin.. unlike Bowe.. is actually an explosive playmaker. I think Andy recognized what Bowe was.. and while he did keep him involved.. he got away from designing lots of big plays to him.

That 5 year period allows a ton of flexibility and really, it's possible he did us a HUGE favor.

Look at it this way and as simple as possible (no roster bonus stuff): 5 yrs, $55 million. Let's say we gave him a $20 million signing bonus, which would be pretty damn massive. That essentially says that we have $4 million in signing bonus money on the cap every year and leaves us 5 years to cover the remaining $35 million.

So how about 1, 4, 8, 10, 12 as the first five years of the deal? Seems like a relatively reasonable breakdown, no?

So cap hits of $5, 8, 12, 14 and 16 million. If he's healthy, the first 3 years of that are relative bargains, especially given the way the cap is trending. You bail on the last year and eat $4 million in dead money.

He's guaranteed $33 million in the first 3 years of his deal (good for him) and if he's been productive in year 4, $14 million won't be prohibitive.

I believe he could've done substantially better than this on the market, especially in light of the actual cash spending mandated for a handful of teams in the league.

We should do the safe thing and trade a couple 2nd rounders for Colin Kaepernick and draft a lineman in the first round.

Someday I just might.

I think if the Cubs win a WS before the Chiefs win a SB, I probably will. Probably just move onto the Bears or something a little closer to home.

Not really.

He'll get 2 years but he has no guaranteed money left in 2017. He also has a $2 million roster bonus due in '17.

So if he can't rise to the occasion in '17 they cut him (post June 1). $3.6 hits the cap in '17 with another $3.6 in '18. They free up just a bit north of $13 million and walk away.

You being reactionary doesn't mean everyone else is just being ignorant. There's a pretty obvious out in the contract after 2016. Smith will have 2 seasons to prove he's worth the next 2 on his deal and the Chiefs have taken the first step towards ensuring there are no more questions to answer by then.

I think he's cut in 2017 no matter what. Unless he brings a SB to KC in the next 2 years.

He's locked into guaranteed money for the next 2 years. So like I said, whether he makes it happen with Maclin or not it likely wont have an effect on how long he is in KC.
