I'd take Romo every day of the week and twice on Sunday's. I'm one of the few Pro-Romo guys here.

And this wasn't a 3rd and 11 from midfield. They were at the goal line. They can still win the game by running the ball. You call your best running play and let it ride. You aren't playing to lose there, you still try to call a running play you think you can score on.
Can't say I agree with your math ... but on the very first pass Romo made Dunbar could have very easily taken that ball out of bounds. Of course, with 45 seconds you can't utilize the middle of the field like Romo did with 90 seconds, which is what I said, but it's not like it can't be done.

I'm going to go all Herm here ... but you play to win the game. If the Giants thought the best way for them to win the game on that 3rd down was to surprise Dallas by passing the ball and scoring a TD to end the game, I agree with them.

Of course, it didn't work, Eli punked himself, and the rest is history.

I forget what game it was but years ago Brandon Stokely caught a desperation heave that bounced off a defender, directly to him, for a walk-off game winner ...

point being, if you have a chance to win the game, and you're a yard away ... you win the game ... you don't settle and play the odds. Just ****ing win the game. I've seen plenty of bad things happen by playing "not to lose." I was at that last Chiefs playoff game.

there was a sense of urgency ... yes and no. Again, you're assuming everyone stays in bounds in these scenarios. Clearly, if you have to go 80 yards in 45 seconds with no timeouts you can't orchestrate the drive the way the Cowboys did with 90 seconds. You have to use the sidelines ... you can only use the middle of the field 1 time, maybe 2 if you're lucky.

So you think Romo can go 6 plays in 50 seconds with no timeouts? That's at best 8 seconds a play, about 14 yards on average, must get out of bounds every single play.

Impossible? No definitely not... but really tough. I think what Romo did was about as good as you can pull off a two minute drill with no timeouts.

If the Giants run the ball instead of throwing it the Giants win.

this stuff is hilarious to me

what if the Giants run the ball, Rashad Jennings takes a helmet to the ball a la Jerome Bettis, Brandon Carr picks it up and runs for a TD ... ? Huh? What if?

what if they run the ball, get stuffed, make the field goal ... Dallas throws a desperation heave, Rahim Moore falls down after horribly misjudging the hail mary, and Cole Beasley scores a game winning TD?

Again, the point is ...

if you are a yard away from victory, and you think the best way to get that victory is to pass the ball so that NONE OF THESE FLUKE things could prevent you from a well deserved victory ...

there is nothing wrong with calling that pass play

for a board that loathed Herm Edwards and Romeo Crennell ... we sure have a bunch of ****ing Herm's around here

Maybe it's not 100% certainty that they win if they run but I'm sure the probability would be really high. I'd take those odds.

no clue

you clearly need 1 big play in this hypothetical situation with 45 seconds to go 80 yards

this was basically accomplished with that first pass to Dunbar who could have very easily taken the ball out of bounds rather than cutting back to the middle of the field

the drive we just saw was made 1000 times easier after just two plays to Dunbar ... the 2nd of which was a god damn magic trick by Romo who continues to be amazingly great in the pocket at avoiding pressure ...

that's two NBC games I've watched this year where I've watched the QB play (Brady and Romo) and thought to myself, as an Alex Smith supporter to a degree, "wow, there is no way our QB could ever do any of those things."

Now, I'm reasonable ... Tom Brady is once in a decade and Tony Romo is borderline HOF good ... so that's a tough crowd to be a part of ... but it sure would be nice if Alex Smith knew how to run a 2 minute drill like I just watched Romo run ...

I still have nightmares from some of those 2014 2 minute drills we saw our QB run

as an odds kind of guy ...

Dallas probably has a 5-10% chance to win the game down 6 with 45 seconds from their 20 yard line and no timeouts

Dallas probably has a 10-20% chance to win the game down 6 with 90 seconds from their 20 yard line and no timeouts

we're acting like this 3rd down abomination really swung the game so much more in favor for Dallas

all the Giants defense had to do was make 1 play ... whether that was cover the RB one time ... sack Romo one time ... stop their momentum one time ...

regardless of how the Giants executed their final offensive play ... the defense had to keep the Cowboys out of the end zone 80 yard away in 90 seconds while the Cowboys had no timeouts

I don't think the defense deserves a free pass because Eli threw the ball away.

Oh they absolutely have issues on defense. That was ****ing terrible.

I despise the prevent defense. It's utter bullshit. Just give teams free yards. Terrible strategy.

if anything ... if the excuse is "well they are in hurry up so we don't have time to call in our defense..."

more teams should be running hurry up ....

of course, the one errant pass Romo made that fell incomplete was nearly picked off so I could definitely see a pretty big uptick in turnovers if a team simply ran non-stop, balls to the wall, 2 minute drill-esque hurry up offense

it would be interesting to see, nonetheless ... Chip Kelly basically does something like that. I'm looking forward to that game tomorrow.
