essentially the answer is YES

because:

either:

1) we actually are alone, because of 'the great filter'

2) we arent alone but the distance is so vast that even with ultimate technology it really isnt feasible to travel to other galaxies or universes

3) again, because of a different aspect of 'the great filter'...there are other civilizations out there but they all go extinct before they develop the technology needed to travel such great distances

or

4) they ARE here but for some reason they harness this great energy and resource (black holes) and expend a universe of energy and give up knowing and hugging anyone they have ever loved to come to earth, remain hidden and abduct cows

as in the above link, I believe the great filter is the ANSWER to the fermi paradox and also to the question of 'are we alone'?:

I agree with everything you said. Still there is a part of me that would love to know that we or some other intelligence would eventually be able to warp time and space enough to travel to some near by stars that don't take a full generation to do so.

We still don't know what dark energy and dark matter are, could they be used as an energy source or even pathways through space and time?

I really think there are living things in our solar system. Especially on the moons of the gas giants. Stuff is swimming in our oceans, there could be some type of fish swimming in Europa or sludge growing on Titan. I think we are alone in our Solar system but not in our galaxy. They keep finding Goldilocks planets all the time there has to be a bunch in even our corner of the Milky Way that have had the time to evolve and become sentient. Communicating and meeting would be tough with our current limited tech.

I have seen the CNN footage a bunch of times and think it was a secret Military program. I have been told that Aurora happened by people close to the project. I know NASA was working on Hypersonic scramjets just a couple of years ago and I thought I heard of interest in bringing back an SR-71 type craft or faster. The way the new fighters can turn on a dime I don't see why skunk works wouldn't have something that could do what we saw on the clip.

3D vector thrusting has come a long way but nowhere near what's shown on the clip.. which is from 2004

The Fermi paradox is predicated on an assumption that all life or intelligence would operate under the same set of rules, instincts, and motives as humanity. It also assumes that any intelligent extraterrestrial lifeforms would be in a shape or substance that is visible - or at least discernible - to human perception.

What if alien lifeforms look and behave like UV rays?

What if alien lifeforms cannot die, therefore have no even understand of what it means to "kill" or "destroy."

What if alien lifeforms are ****ing insects, and there's literally billions of them on earth?

What if they are simply a conscious thought that moves in an out of our minds, exploring and mining, without us ever knowing?

The idea that alien life would be carbon-based, oxygen-breathing, anthropomorphic, organic, hard-shell bodies is laughably egotistical.

There isn't any other element beyond carbon that can form the basis for life.

While this is true on Earth, how can we be 100% sure that this science applies to the rest of the universe?

Yeah, that's a grossly inaccurate title. Listen to his actual TED talk. He never says that, or anything close.

We are constantly learning. Scientists know plenty about physics but you can never assume that knowledge is complete or all encompassing.

I would say there is more in the universe to know than the human mind can comprehend, let alone collectively have time to study. We will always know only a small scintilla of what is out there to know.

That doesn't mean scientists don't have an share a lot of extremely useful knowledge that apply to our quality of life on a daily basis.

So hard to accept that a universe that is millions of years old, millions of planets and so incredibly vast that we are the only living beings in the entire place.

I lean in the direction that there is or was life in our fantastic universe.

out of all the worlds we can see in the sky it would be soooo arrogant of us to think we are the only ones who evolved from the premordial goo.

Even if the great filter theory is valid something on the trillions of places would have evolved into some kind of censured being.
