I don't know how realistic this is... but Welker would be the perfect receiver for Smith. Absolute perfect marriage between QB and Receiver. I was dreaming that the slap dick from the CFL might turn into a poor man's welker.

Not realistic and i hope it doesn't happen. I wasn't serious. Too concussion prone.

You hope it doesn't happen because you don't like Welker or the Chiefs can't afford Welker?

edit: Nevermind... I don't know how I missed your last bit about being concussion prone.

I don't think it's a wise investment. He's aging and very, very concussion prone. The guy is one hard hit away from retirement and i wouldn't want our offense relying on that. Would much rather develop a WR than to invest in Welker.

And look, it's possible that Avant still has fumes in the tank and might be able to help us out. I'm not rejecting the signing, only the reaction and labeling that the Chiefs needed "reliable hands" so that's why we're signing him.

If Avant ends up contributing, it's not because he's a ****ing "hands guy." It's because he actually has a legitimate clue about playing the position in the NFL, unlike Frankie Hammond.

The Steelers stuck with Hines Ward continually through the end of his career as his production was declining. The Ravens are relying on a guy like Steve Smith as well. Those two players stuck around as long as they did because they could still contribute by playing smart at the position and using what skills they had/have left efficiently. NOT because they had reliable hands.

That's it.

So it seems like we are arguing the same thing then... you just don't like the term "hands guy"? Just want a guy that can carve out a bit of separation and catch the ball consistently. Call him what you want... hope Avant is that guy.

See, that's what I hate.

What's the #1 reason why our WRs suck? If you say "it's because they don't consistently catch the ball," that's just idiotic and simplistic fan speak.

If we are talking about replacing Bowe or Avery or DAT, sure.

If we are talking about replacing Hemmingway... catching the ball and running the right routes has absolutely been the problem.

If Hemingway caught all his dropped passes this season, our WRs would still suck.

If all our WRs had zero drops on the year, how many more passing yards would Smith have in 11 games? 150? 200? We still wouldn't have a TD from a WR on the year.

Avant's decent hands aren't going to change jack shit about this team unless he is able to play smart and be efficient in his routes like when he was younger.

Good crisp routes that creates separation at the correct time for the progression and good hands. I'm not looking for someone that can climb the ladder and make circus catches behind the back or burn a hole in the field with his speed. Just run good routes and catch catchable balls. That's what we need. Is Avant that? Who has watched Avant enough to know if he is that?
