How good could Chris Jones be as a rookie?

In case you missed it, Chris Jones was beasting again yesterday.

PFF seems to agree. He was our highest rated player overall for the preseason going into the game yesterday.
Rookie DE Chris Jones looking like a second-round steal

Quote:
Chris Jones was one of the highest-graded interior defenders in the nation last season, and was No. 12 on PFF’s final draft board, but slid all the way to Kansas City in the second round at pick No. 37. In this game, he dominated the Bears, generating three hurries, a batted pass, and stuffing more than one play deep in the backfield. He displayed the strength and quickness combination that made multiple PFF analysts fall in love with him as a prospect, and looks like a true impact player for the Chiefs already.

It's pretty clear that Chris Jones can and will beat weaker/slower OL this year. He's proven that though 3 preseason games.

What are your thoughts on this kid? Could he provide more than his replacement, Mike DeVito, this year?
DeVito had 19 tackles, 3 stuffs and 3 sacks.

He's just a complete non-factor out there unless a RB is dumb enough to run right at him. He just looks incredibly slow.
Bailey
Colquitt
Zombo
Wilson
Mauga

Just under $10 million cap relief from those guys.

Bailey had 3 sacks and 2 forced fumbles in the playoffs.

I wouldn't be so fast to write him off, but he needs to step up BIGTIME if he's gonna keep a starting spot over Jones.

Jones is gonna be one of the best Dl in the league very quickly.

That's 7 guys. How much of that $10 million will be ate up by their replacements? Other than Bailey and Colquitt, most of those guys are already making league minimum or close to it. Not much room for gain.

If it's Poe or Berry, the decision is obvious. It's especially so with Bailey looking like he's just done improving.
I know you know this, but as usual
99.9% don't pay attention to line play unless it's a negative or someone doing something obvious like tackle for loss / sack.

Poe had 1 mention in the broadcast. Otherwise he's just part of the blob people think is getting in their way of following the ball.

There were actually people on CP saying he had another bad game.

He won't, but he'll have a significantly better campaign than 2015.

If the the question is who to spend the money on assuming they have roughly equal levels of performance at their respective positions & already have about equal possible concerns about long term health / injuries, then ask yourself who's going to be easier to find a serviceable replacement on the cheap?

If the answer you came back with was replacing the athletic freak whose still big enough to anchor the very foundation in the middle of your defense which runs a scheme that requires a rather unique mix of size & speed among the necessary skillset to make the defense potently effective by getting enough pressure not only from both sides but up the gut, so re-sign Barry, obviously!

Then my answer would be welcome to American football, & I bet you're excited to watch your first game this upcoming Sunday!

This season is very much about whether '14 was a blip. The outlier in Poe's average otherwise career, or if '15 was simply the case of a guy who was never able to get healthy in season, but looking more like 2014 Poe than 2015 Poe in 2016.

To me, if they both have really good seasons, it's not even a question on who you lock up. All the same I definitely don't want to see Eric go. I'm hoping or wishing they can end up finding the space and get both of them back on reasonable deals. Emphasis on wish being the case.

Those were my thoughts on Howard last season and I think the rest of the league sensed that. He got paid and if he slacks off then fine. More playing time for Jones

Paylor is writing his own ticket outta KC.

I mean that in a good way. As in he's done some excellent and original pieces and features to expand the coverage and analysis of the team. It's not long before bigger opportunities come calling upon him.

He at least puts in the effort to find out "why?"

totally agree, the right choice is poe. i was saying from a contractual standpoint, either poe gets paid, and the chiefs will suffer a few years from now, or they get a discount on berry, with money to spend elsewhere. id love for poe to be a chief for life personally.

Wow, Jones is the real deal. Haven't had a 5-tech with that kind of natural power and length in a long time on this team.

It's early, but it looks like Chris Jones was the right choice compared to Nkemdiche.

Alex Marcez-Based on @SiriusXMNFL comments from Bruce Arians, looks like DE Robert Nkemdiche will be inactive until improving his play in practice
