How good could Chris Jones be as a rookie?

In case you missed it, Chris Jones was beasting again yesterday.

PFF seems to agree. He was our highest rated player overall for the preseason going into the game yesterday.
Rookie DE Chris Jones looking like a second-round steal

Quote:
Chris Jones was one of the highest-graded interior defenders in the nation last season, and was No. 12 on PFF’s final draft board, but slid all the way to Kansas City in the second round at pick No. 37. In this game, he dominated the Bears, generating three hurries, a batted pass, and stuffing more than one play deep in the backfield. He displayed the strength and quickness combination that made multiple PFF analysts fall in love with him as a prospect, and looks like a true impact player for the Chiefs already.

It's pretty clear that Chris Jones can and will beat weaker/slower OL this year. He's proven that though 3 preseason games.

What are your thoughts on this kid? Could he provide more than his replacement, Mike DeVito, this year?
DeVito had 19 tackles, 3 stuffs and 3 sacks.

berry maybe, not poe. if we want the chiefs to continually get to the playoffs, we cannot afford to pay poe (aside from injury, or a really bad year)

Really? I was not happy when the Chiefs drafted him. Was one of my favorite DL's in the draft.

I, for one, welcome our new overlord of the D LINE, our liege, Chris Jones.

It's early, but this last draft is looking rosy for the future at this point in spite of the tampon party that ensued around here when Dorsey traded back & out of the 1st round.

Huh? They might pass because of injury concerns, but his looming contract isn't anywhere close to what would have been prognosticated after 2014. There's not in a position where you can say letting him walk is of little impact because they do have some pretty decent line depth, but no one who really plugs in at Poe's role, and his spot in Sutton's D is critical- maybe moreso than any other in that scheme.

What is worrisome is Sutton is not a shift on the fly coordinator. Hoodie might be the McGuyver of coaches, and make do with seemingly anything laying around and get results. Sutton is paint by numbers, and you can't tell him there's no blue paint and then ask him to paint the ocean. Paint by numbers don't improvise even if green and all the rest of the colors are there for him to mix and match, and use.

Poe just played possibly the best game of his career and showed exactly how valuable he is to the defense.

Berry did....what, precisely?

If it's Poe or Berry, the decision is obvious. It's especially so with Bailey looking like he's just done improving.

Plus I don't think that Poe is going to be as expensive as everyone thinks. He's not getting a $100 million dollar deal.

Give him 14 more games like that one and he will.

Did anyone think Olivier Vernon was getting $85?

He won't get $100 million, but if he plays anywhere close to to the level he just demonstrated for the rest of the season, he's looking at a $12-14 million AAV, IMO. And if he can start finishing off sacks, he'll get nearer to $15-16 million. Personnel men are going to see what he's capable of doing and think that if they plug him into a 4-3, he could be a 10 sack/season interior destroyer of worlds.

And frankly, they're probably right.

Howard and Bailey look like they've fallen off a cliff so far. Was Howard playing so well because he was in a contract year? My god.

As for Jones, he's still flashing that power.

FWIW, we could make Bailey a June 1st cut and save $2.5 million if he continues to play like this all season

Nick williams has been better than bailey thus far from where I sit.

Paylor is doing some nice dl stuff on snapchat right now. We went with 3 dl more to stop the run vs the Texans when they were in 11 personal and a 3 5 set vs 22 personel.

Bailey's making himself expendable.

Dude just hasn't improved a bit since he signed that deal. That looked for all the world like it had the potential to be an incredibly team friendly deal and as it turns out, it could well be a turd by year 2.

He's just a complete non-factor out there unless a RB is dumb enough to run right at him. He just looks incredibly slow.
