How can we improve Chiefs discussion around here?

I've mentioned my disappointment in the quality of discussion in a few threads lately, but figured it's worth a more meta discussion to figure out 1) if I'm alone in this perception and 2) if there's anything that can be done about it.

Back in the old days, I walked 20 miles to school in the snow uphill both ways!

Err...wait. I mean, ChiefsPlanet was THE place where I got my Chiefs news. If an article was worth reading on another site, it was linked here. If there was a tweet with Chiefs news, it was posted here 30 seconds after it hit Twitter. If someone said something worthwhile on the radio, someone would post about it on here. And (with all due respect to those who like megathreads), you could glance at the front page and have a pretty decent idea of what the big news was for the day.

After returning home from the boonies on Sunday morning, however, I honestly had no idea how the game Saturday even went. I ended up visiting Arrowhead Pride and Chiefs Digest just to get a feel for what went down. Am I the weird one for thinking that that sucks?

Anyway, just figured it's worth the discussion. If it turns out that everyone is pretty content the way things are, I'll just bookmark some other resources and move on with life. But if I'm not alone, what can we do to make things better?

This is probably just me but I think the sports landscape has changed a bunch. I used to seek out all this info and get the magazines during preseason...then the internet comes around and there were some decent sources and this place had a lot of that but at some point I just started to be too inundated with sports news and info. Every little angle...every tidbit of information beaten to death by a million people on Twitter...bloggers...wannabe bloggers...fans...then mainstream media. It just made me reject it all and go the other way. Valuing the actual game over the ecosystem around it. Lots of guys love the endless predictions and takes and draft stuff and that's cool but focusing on the actual games has made my enjoyment go up a ton.

I apologize for my tone too.

Yeah, my bad to you too. I'm going to give you shit about being a fan of multiple teams. Don't be offended by it. It doesn't mean anything.

Like, my last three arguments were with Dane and you've got to go straight for the throat with that mother****er or he'll gut ya. I'm a product of my environment.

We experienced this in the Cardinals thread lately with Hootie. He didn't violate any TOS. But was annoying the hell out of everyone.

I counseled the Cardinals fans and now everyone else on this board. Just use the ignore feature for people who you detest who you feel have no input you care to hear.

Banning for annoying would change this board.

The Irony in the comment, and literally makes me laugh out loud is as a browns fan, I can empathize better than anyone else in the NFL about life as a Chiefs fan.

Hell, I can even empathize with the Indy loss.

The drive, the fumble, HELL, even against the HATED STEELERS IN 2002!

But seriously, the Royals are REALLY ****ing good. The Chiefs might be pretty good this season. Last year they ended up looking just above average.

Do you remember anyone bitching about a lack of discussion after we beat the Seahawks? I don't think that's a coincidence.
You're missing the point, IMO.

The win/loss record of a football team shouldn't impact the actual discussion of said football team. No one has stated that if they suck, it shouldn't be pointed out or discussed nor should anyone not revel in victory.

But nearly every single conversation, regardless of the original topic, has devolved into an "Alex Smith Sucks" conversation for more than a year. And it's not "random" people that are pulling the discussions in that territory, it's the same exact people, day in and day out.

It's tiring, it's monotonous and it's old.

And apparently, it's here to stay.

This post is regarding a goal that we all want to see happen:

Creation of Original Content

I sadly missed out on the herm era...LOL...but let me go on

Now I may be wrong..but from my perspective this board was and still is the best place for talking about the chiefs. (since 2010 and probably before, sadly i wasnt here prior)

I think its just wearing people down , all of the losing and regime changes with zero playoff wins to show.

I blame myself too, I'm not pointing the finger at others but I find myself thinking 'why bother' creating a video or cartoon or even picture when its going to be just a meh season....

Like personally I feel like I would invest more time in some posts if it even had the POSSIBILITY of being an epic season. I just don't see that possibility with this crew....

Yet we all enjoy new content...even in rough times or meh (8-8) seasons.....

I like the idea of figuring out how to sift through the content and make sure more relevant content is put on the front page and not shit on by people.

I really don't see that happen much though...the truly good content people post seems to get heaps of praise....maybe I am naive but I really think new content would spew forth if we just had a couple seasons in a row where we all believed this was a team that could win a playoff game...

I would be very careful doing too much to moderate or try and force things, because what you have here is truly a microcosm of how fans feel. Good bad and ugly, this is the state of things right now. 20 years + with no playoff wins...If that makes you want to turn away, so be it......but if you do you might miss an epic turn around!

It will be a sweet sweet moment when our Chase Daniels or Aaron Murray or whoever emerges in a couple years and we do string together some solid seasons.

You guys for the most part have done an OUTSTANDING job letting this place just BE. I trust that when the Chiefs get better, and PROVE they are better...that more content and less bitching will happen.

I dunno. Just how I see it.

We've needed it for to long. I don't even tell people about this place anymore. It's the same posters since I have been here. We can't take on new fans because the assholes here chase people away. Everyone new Mav, Bonecrusher, and many more i always rep and let them know what kind of shit hole this has become. I also try to make it a nice transaction for them.

I don't mind negativity, hell i have had my moments. Shoving the same putrid hate down everyone's throats about a particular player in a thread becomes mundane.

The shit has gotten so bad that when there is discussion about a new player or signing, well .........Alex Smith.

To put it another way...The hate for cassel and Pioli that erupted and culminated in a flying banner could just as easily be LOVE and emerge as so much good content...if only we would just win a single playoff game.

That passion is THERE. It is just waiting to burst forth ....
