I agree it's accurate from a certain frame of reference. That within the airline industry it's not an anomaly. However the person you accused of being confused by the word anomaly was also accurate that within business practices in general the way the airlines operate is an anomaly.

So I disagree that the definition the other poster used was incorrect. It was correct from the viewpoint of general business practices, just not within the airline industry. I never said you were full of shit, just that your response to came off as condescending and frankly it did IMO.

Yeah like I said, most of them look like they just got fired from a burger joint the day before, not exactly the cream of society. If they didn't get the TSA job, they would likely be out digging through dumpsters hustling up aluminum cans.

Business practices are driven in large part by the nature of the business engaged in.

It's fairly irrelevant that Mom's pie shop will bake you an apple pie if you insist on it, even if they're out, rather than throw you off the premises.

I ****ing hate flying.

By the time I'm buckled in on a flight I'm more ****ed up than the average person being face-raped at a sideways dentist's office...

No, I got banned by a pair of power mad psychopaths. While I was gone, I never came back as a mult, rarely even lurked, and was content to be gone forever until I was told that the ****s had been run out of management. I was asked to return, and I did.

You are well aware of this, Mr. Facts are Fact.

Yes but it's still allowable to compare business practices across different industries. Here was what you said that I responded to.

Quote:
An 'acceptable industry practice' can be a number things [a ripoff, a travesty, a shame]. What it cannot be, by definition, is an anomaly.
You used this to imply the poster didn't know what anomaly meant. When in fact his usage of the word was 100% correct when comparing to other industries. Here is the post you were responding to.

Quote:
The initial anomaly is that it is an acceptable industry practice to kick paying customers out of their seats. Period. How long do you think you'd stay in business treating clients like this?
Notice how he mentions how you would fare if you treated customers this way? This should have been your hint that he meant the airlines being able to treat people like they do is an anomaly in the overall business world. Because I think we all know you aren't a pilot, so obviously by asking you how your customers would like to be treated like this he's comparing to another industry.

Where you come off as condescending is when you decide that if he isn't viewing things from your narrow viewpoint he doesn't know the meaning of the word.

Ironically, at O'Hare on the flight out of Chicago, they were fine. Hell, I remember one of them was actually pleasant. I went right through with no issues whatsoever.

For that flight I was wearing a Chiefs hat, though. Maybe they felt sorry for me.

But my point was the thing that was ANOMALOUS about this specific incident in this specific situation that resulted in a physical confrontation.

The thing that was different in this situation, compared to MILLIONS of other bumps and deplanings was this individual refused to move until such point that the security personnel responded with physical violence.

Maybe if Fraz had said 'the entire airline industry is full of anomalies compared to normal civilized interaction' you'd have a more solid point.

Think of it like this, only if it helps. I only wish to help.

Suppose there is an accident on a roller coaster, and it turns out that for the first time in the history of the park there had been no maintenance on the coaster for a year.

One could find fair consensus to say 'it was anomalous for the park not to maintain their coasters.'

Would you defend Fraz and label me condescending if he interjected 'no, what's anomalous is customers putting up with standing in line to be thrown into the air for a few moments of thrills.'

That's great, but I don't really care. The only thing I'm addressing here is that his statement was a 100% valid use of the word anomaly. And your trying to make him look stupid because he didn't use it in the exact same frame of reference as you is a dick move.

So he has to phrase it in the exact way you want. You're unbelievable. Anyway I'm pretty much done here, you seemed confused as to why people were saying you came across as condescending so I was simply pointing it out to you. If you want to ignore it carry on.

Now you're arguing just to argue. I didn't try to make anyone look stupid. I was following up on all the people accusing me of hypertechnical language full of obscure terms.

However strenuously you continue to assert your position, it is a stretch. What I meant by anomaly was clear and what Fraz asserted as the 'true' anomaly was a tortured use of language.
