I watched one time where it ended up taking two international first class tickets to get it done. The point is, they were willing to do what it took at one point. Flying has changed a lot over the years. I really enjoyed flying years ago, now I dread it days in advance before I have to jump on a plane.

Between the pissed off airline employees, the TSA bullshit, the excessive baggage fees, and half the people boarding the plane bringing extra carry on items that are not allowed resulting in quickly filling up the overhead bins, it's a cluster.

As far as the Doc, you can bet your last dime the guy is going to see a huge payday out of this.
All of this!!! And I've flown a LOT and I can't remember ever seeing a seated person being removed for anything other than being an asshole.

As for this happening because of some NonRes airline employees, well that's bullshit. Especially for a person who was seated. I get that working for the airlines has it's perks (not living in the city where you start your work day), but this is nuts. I had a GF who was a flight attendant when I lived in Va. Beach, and she had to fly to Charlotte to start her day. Sometimes she had to leave the night before because the AM flight didn't have enough unfilled seats. The key being "enough unfilled seats" because her airline wasn't going to boot a customer because an employee needed to get to work.

The point is up until this story exploded, it would have never occurred to them to do anything but what they did. We need to get to Louisville, this plane is going to Louisville, kick those serfs out of our seats and let's get going.

The practice may end up changing, but I'm sure the attitude behind it won't.

I should sue HER for mental pain and suffering just listening to her. The security guys should've released the doc and grabbed her instead. They'd be heroes today, and United's problem would've been solved.

I like Southwest because they are almost always on time and they are pleasant to deal with. I flew Virgin America once to San Francisco and it was a good experience, a helluva lot different than shit like United or American.
Hawaiian and Alaska are both pretty good airlines, not as good as foreign airlines, but a step above the other US. I always fly one of them if I can.

From a purely objective viewpoint, the initial anomaly remains the completely resistant passenger. Perhaps he's a hero in the sense that he asserted 'the power we all had all along.' And certainly the subsequent anomalous conduct of physical contact, wailing, and injury superseded everything that happened before. But from the standpoint of settled expectations, 999 times out of 1000, the crew boards, requests are made, scowls are exchanged and the matter is settled relatively amiably.

The initial anomaly is that it is an acceptable industry practice to kick paying customers out of their seats. Period. How long do you think you'd stay in business treating clients like this?

I'm thrilled that this happened, because now I won't have to worry about it happening to me the next time I fly somewhere. This guy basically took one for the team, and the team won.

Jesus, I can't even use the word anomaly without confusing people?

An 'acceptable industry practice' can be a number things [a ripoff, a travesty, a shame]. What it cannot be, by definition, is an anomaly.
