We're fine--trust in Mahomes

Yeah, this defense is a pile of trash like in the Vermeil years. Yeah, Andy Reid's track record in big games in his coaching career is abysmal. Yeah, this team is not playing its best football right now heading into the playoffs like they often did in the Alex Smith era.

But quit drawing comparisons between this team and past Chiefs/Reid teams and quit acting like this team is somehow doomed in January because they lost two close December games to good teams (one to arguably the 2nd best team in the NFL on the final play and another in the toughest road environment in the NFL).

Any of the parallels between the 2018 Chiefs and any past iterations of this franchise should stop once you realize we have a 5000 yd/50 TD quarterback in a league where passing offense is increasingly the only thing that matters. Patrick Mahomes is the best ****ing quarterback in the league and it isn't even close. He's the kind of offensive difference maker that no other team can match (and particularly no other team in the AFC this year) and he has led this team to the most wins in the conference practically by himself.

Sure it sucks that they didn't get it done the last few weeks, but the Chiefs are going to beat Oakland at home next week to get the #1 seed and home advantage. That is WHAT ****ing matters. Not whether they won or lost some December road game to the Seattle ****ing Seahawks. The real season for this team starts in January and that has been obvious for weeks now (and has probably been obvious to the Chiefs themselves too).

Given that home advantage along with the biggest weapon in the league leading them, the Chiefs are going to have as good a chance as anyone at winning a SB this season. Any other team in this league would kill to be in that position right now. Now it may not work out in the end and the defensive flaws may come back to bite us, but this team is almost certainly going to be among eight teams (and one of the best of those eight) in with a shot this year come January 12/13. It's time to stop bitching and moaning about what this team isn't and start appreciating what it is. Put your faith in Mahomes and get on for the ride.

If we get Watkins and LDT back at close to 100 percent Mahomes has a good chance of winning some playoff games. The reality is we need to break 40 to have a chance of winning games and we need those two.

We need Watkins ……..BAD! They can't double Watkins, Kelce, and Hill. Plus Ware and Williams catching passes out of the backfield.

Kareem was at his best when Watkins, Hill, and Kelce were all healthy!!!!

I see great things from our offense in the playoffs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They can't hold up with the game on the line and our 2 minute offense sucks because of it. Well they sucked for more than that last night but yeah...

I will say this...the young corners were burned a fair amount, but there were also several throws where coverage was there, but the WR made excellent catches and Wilson made perfect elite QB throws.

If they play against Oakland and cover the same way, I am not sure Carr makes those throws.

Of course, that could be me looking for any light of positive in that shit show of a defense.

Problem isn't how we cover Carr's throws. It's how we cover Rivers, Brady's, Watson's, and Luck's throws in January.

Start with Carr. I thing the young guys could improve over the next few weeks too.....can only hope.

At this point I just want HFA and a home win. Get to the AFCCG. Something to build on for next year.

Veach has a lot work to do for next year for sure.

We probably should have at least done it on the 2nd last kick last night. Worst case scenario was just giving them a shorter field to score their touchdown and holding them to a FG would have led to a 6 point game.

But, my goal has been to win a single home playoff game. And that's still very much in play. So I can live with all of this.
Statistically, they are still the best team in the NFL overall by virtue of their offense and they are one win away over a bottom feeder from getting HFA in the playoffs. If that position isn't fine, no other team is fine either.

I agree. I'm for trying the onside kick earlier if you are down 4 or less. If you don't get it you are in the same situation where you need to stop them from getting 3 or so first downs. If you do you are giving up a FG at worst and getting the ball back with a chance to win or tie.

If you kick it off you are still in the exact same situation of having to stop them in 3 or less first downs and get the ball back. Difference being a FG might win it or tie it instead of needing a touchdown.

1. Chance of getting onside kick OR defense gets a stop plus your offense being able to score a TD

Advantages- 2 different ways to get ball back. Via onside kick or stopping them.

Disadvantages- Now need a TD or need a FG in poor field position

vs.
2. Chance of defense getting a stop and your defense gets a FG

Advantages- Possibly a shorter field and only need a FG

Disadvantage- Take away onside kick possibility and need your defense to step up

Would be interested in finding % of each situation occurring and seeing what the odds really are. Especially if we could compare the %'s of poor defenses specifically.
Especially if you are down 4 points, I think option 1 is best since you need a TD anyway. With a normal defense option 2 might be best but with the offense and defense we have, having the additional chance of getting an onside kick attempt might be worth it if the risk is just having to ask you offense to do more when they get the ball back.
