Let's talk trucks
So, my son is about to turn 16. I've got a 2011 Toyota Tacoma. It's been paid off for a few years and ha 130k miles. I think I'm gonna give it to him and get myself a truck. I'm leaning towards a 2017 F 150. I don't want a Ford vs chevy debate. Just looking for opinions from guys that have one. Any input? Thanks

Really why sell your truck why change anything buy a 5K car FWD or 4WD and save the money, you will need it in the future.

Yeah, I spent a week at the Flint Michigan GMC truck plant earlier this year. It amazed me how many trucks they pumped out of that place on a daily basis.

Unless you can take a 75% 1st year write off you should not be buying new... 2 years from now there will be tons of executive SUV's and 4door 4WD trucks for trade in as they can trade early and often and typically do.

I was wrong about the F150 not being included, they tacked on a LGVW standard and to make sales Ford rated the F-150 at 6010lbs so talk to your tax guy about business ownership and depreciation during 1st year.

edit: this irritates me. These trucks are about 5-700 pounds lighter than the previous steel F-150, all the while having an improved stronger frame. And I am not sure what flimsy means, but the body panels of a vehicle dont determine its structural integrity, as well as you maybe thinking aluminum is 'flimsy' because it doesn't stay deformed when it gets dinged and instead bounces back.

I have eaten, slept, and breathed vehicles for all of my adult life. Especially trucks. I touched them, drove them, learned about them, was involved in service repairs, and sold them 10-12 hours a day, 5+ days a week, for the last 15 years. There is no better truck out there than a current F-150. OP do yourself a favor and stick with your plan. I am not just saying this. I did work for Ford for a very long time, but I am completely objective on vehicles, (I would tell you not to TOUCH one of those shit Lincoln LS or an automatic Focus/fiesta 12 and newer with that terrible dual clutch trans) and I no longer work for Ford so have no skin in the game.
Yeah those same genius engineers did the dual clutch on the Focus.

Tacoma owner here - I have a 2005 quad cab SR5 with 191K miles. I was at the Toyota dealer getting some work done on my wife's car and the service mgr says, "hey, have you had your truck frame inspected for rust?" Toyota has a free check for Tacoma frames for 2005-14 I think. I take it in later that week and low-and-behold, it has rust holes in the frame. Toyota is replacing the frame for free. Glad I got it checked. But the time frame for the free check/fix ends soon (May maybe?), so any Tacoma owners get your truck in to a dealer to get it checked.

Maybe it has been mentioned but isn't Ford dropping a diesel as an option for the F150 this year?

Ya, for 46k minimum. 2wd supercab lariat is base for the diesel. That is unless you buy fleet.
