John Dorsey and the Eric Berry decision

Yet another reason I think John Dorsey was the best GM the Chiefs have ever had is that he seems to be proven right about this team so far when it came to the Eric Berry deal.

Eric Berry cost this team a gigantic chunk of change -- and he's well worth it. He's the best safety in the league and a true locker room leader and the face of the franchise.

I forget where I read it, but wasn't it a rumor that the Berry negotiations were a huge sticking point with Clark Hunt getting worn down on Dorsey?

Berry wanted a massive payday, and Dorsey was balking, on the verge of letting him go. It got to the point, so say the rumors, that Berry wasn't even talking to the team until Clark himself had to step in.

Well, what if Dorsey hadn't paid Berry? And let Berry walk?

Seriously, I'm asking.

Berry played a magnificent game against Gronk, but the Chiefs are 4-0 without him, stifling Wentz, Rivers, Cousins, and Watson.

Obviously we're only 5 games into the season, but isn't John Dorsey looking like he's been proven correct on this call so far?

EDIT: Can a mod fix my thread title? Please and thank you.

Different heel bothered him.

Eric is worth every dollar, besides this freak accident.

What is the source of the information for the story that Dorsey was against signing Eric Berry to a new deal?

1/5 of our Defensive salary is being spent on a player that only made it .5 games into the season. Dorsey knew what he was doing.

It would appear that the best thing about the Dorsey era is that the scouting got better. How much of that is directly him? How much of that is just that he knew who to hire? Were any of those scouts already here and just got better at their jobs? No idea. Cap management was a problem, though.

At any rate, if we get corner help and draft fatties next year for both lines we should be in good shape for the beginning of the Mahomes era.

Knowing who to hire IS a direct responsibility of the guy in charge, is it not? If he hires good scouts and they do a good job and the scouting improves, that's what a guy who knows scouting should do.

I wasn't arguing.

But at any rate, unless all those scouts jump ship, we should be in good shape going forward.

The biggest issue with Dorsey was/is cap management, and while I still liked him, it is indeed a problem.

We aren't winning a Super Bowl without Berry. That said, I wouldn't be surprised to see us bring him back from IR in January. He's done some amazing things as far as the human body goes and I wouldn't put it past him. Remember, you can bring one guy back now.

This team keeps churning along despite the Eagles, Skins, and Texans throwing everything they have at us. teams deal with injuries all the time but fortunately for this team, our injuries come early in the season where we can get valuable playing time in for the guys who need to step up (Robinson/ Eric Murray)

No way Berry comes back. The rehab process has to be factored into the healing process. Then getting back to limited practice then full practice and then actually being game ready.

That would be nice. But 4 months to recover? I don't think so. And it's 2 guys can be brought back, but Nelson will be getting one of those spots soon.

The fact the other Achilles blew in the opener is a HUGE concern because the other one is still weak.

Let’s face it. The Eric Berry deal might turn out to be pretty bad if KC doesn’t get very lucky after this year.
