I do not want to give to charity

I go to Panda Express about once a week. Every single time they ask me if I want to donate money to dying children. I used to just give them money, and round up. But now - I suppose I'm evil I've just not been doing it. And I'm getting tired of places like this asking me to give money after I've just purchased something.

The people with the bell...fine I guess...it's just kind of annoying & awkward asking me this at the cash register after I've just bought $300 worth of shit. You know damn well I have the money to donate.

There are tons of places doing this now. I'll get a sandwich somewhere and they'll be like - do you want to help dying children? I kind of just want to reply - I ****ing love dying children. They are the best kind. Thanks for ruining my day. I'm tired of them soliciting from me because all they want to do is be able to say in their commercials how much money they've raised for charity to in turn get more business to show the world just how much they really care!

I am a horrible person. I realize this.

I do charity on my own time. Every year I've helped at a soup kitchen or a salvation army drive. I just don't want to donate money at a business so they can brag about how much they did so they can become more profitable.

I've generally not given in the past to something that doesn't give me a receipt, because I could write it off on my taxes. So I'd only give in larger amounts to fewer organizations. Now I can't do that, so receipts don't make a difference. That's going to be true of a lot of people, so there's no incentive now to give larger amounts all at once.

I bet who ever has a dying child appreciates it. That's enough for me to give whatever remaining change i have. It's nbd. It'd get lost in the car seat, on the floor and if it's lucky, in a coin jar i haven't cared about in years.

I dont know how much of my change actually goes to charity. Some of it does im sure. Personally i think the gesture alone that you care enough to give SOMETHING is worth the price of donation.

I know it gets annoying sometimes. I get annoyed too. But i try to remind myself to just do good when you can.

So you were itemizing before and are not now? Other than the standard deduction amount and a bunch of 2% of AGI limited deductions that you probably weren't taking, my understanding is nothing else has changed.

If you were making large chunks of donations, you could pile them up into every other year (I would notify the entities) and Itemize every other year. That way in the off years you still get to take the 25K standard (presuming you're married? I think you're married) and still get to take the contributions.

Yeah, I'm not a fan, either, although I'm a sucker for people collecting for veterans groups or anything that a fireman is holding his boot out for.

I've had a couple of friends who had some horrific shit happen to them this year, and donated decent amounts to GoFundMe accounts set up for them. One lost an arm and the hand on his remaining arm in a work accident, and the other lost everything but his car in the Paradise fire. I know my money went to them directly, not to first class airline seats for the CEO of the United Way.
