John Dorsey and the Eric Berry decision

Yet another reason I think John Dorsey was the best GM the Chiefs have ever had is that he seems to be proven right about this team so far when it came to the Eric Berry deal.

Eric Berry cost this team a gigantic chunk of change -- and he's well worth it. He's the best safety in the league and a true locker room leader and the face of the franchise.

I forget where I read it, but wasn't it a rumor that the Berry negotiations were a huge sticking point with Clark Hunt getting worn down on Dorsey?

Berry wanted a massive payday, and Dorsey was balking, on the verge of letting him go. It got to the point, so say the rumors, that Berry wasn't even talking to the team until Clark himself had to step in.

Well, what if Dorsey hadn't paid Berry? And let Berry walk?

Seriously, I'm asking.

Berry played a magnificent game against Gronk, but the Chiefs are 4-0 without him, stifling Wentz, Rivers, Cousins, and Watson.

Obviously we're only 5 games into the season, but isn't John Dorsey looking like he's been proven correct on this call so far?

EDIT: Can a mod fix my thread title? Please and thank you.

I thought it was a big tell when Andy went for 2 after being up significantly, which he knew our d was going to give up everything underneath and with a guy like DS balling he knew he wanted to be a full 2 scores ahead although it failed. He didn't trust our 2ndary with Fuller,Hopkins with DS throwing to them.

It still remains to be seen but I still don't like the move.
Veach has looked great since he's started. KPL, Ragland, Erving and A. Hunt have all played and so far they've provided value.

So far so good. And who knows maybe Veach is taking from Dorsey's notes on these acquisitions that make it look like it was all Veach but in reality it was Dorsey's future moves that Veach is putting into motion. Only time will tell for sure. You know a good GM has to be 2-3 steps ahead of everyone to keep pace and be competitive.

Agree he has made some good moves so far. I think the jury is still out on some of those but they all have provided some value this year. I really hope Veach has got the Dorsey eye in the draft.

I would have thanked him...he deserves to know he's appreciated by the fans. Just an impeccable track record..Kelce 3rd, Hunt 3rd, Hill 5th, Jones 2nd, Peters 1st. What ever team he goes to..will be a 2nd team I'll follow. Dude has a gift...Chiefs ****ed this up.

To me there is only one position that you can’t lose a guy and that’s QB. It’s the only position that has proven to be irreplaceable.

All other positions can be taken care of somehow.

Let's look at it this way. If the Chiefs win the Super Bowl this season, shouldn't Berry receive a Super Bowl ring? Of course he should! Why? Because he was key in the season opener win over the Patriots! He most definitely did contribute to getting our season off to a great start, and set the tone for the games that followed. Clark Hunt was correct to work a contract with Berry, especially if there' were playing time clauses in the details.

The reasons I harped about when we were discussing extending Berry’s contract:

Cancer returning
His Achilles (which was a major concern even before his cancer diagnosis)
Needing all pro level play for every year of his contract to get a ROI for a mega deal for a safety.

I’m sure those were Dorsey’s concerns, too.

Uh.......Berry is a Chief and will get a ring if they win the SB.

I have no idea why you are discussing this, or think there is a possibility that he wouldn't.

Why was his achilles a concern?

Is Dorsey a soothsayer?

Do you even Chiefs, bro?

Berry's "heel" injury stuck with him for much of 2016.
