Salary cap

So with the addition of Quinn, Boss, Routt, Winston and Hillis - where do we stand salary cap wise and is there enough to go after another Winston type FA and pay the rooks?

There is no way to justify any receiver not named megatron receiving 10% of your cap space. If those are his demands, trade him to someone who will pay him and draft a receiver.

I thought of something today. If Bowe says he needs a deal worth 60/5 years, I tell him that I will just franchise him again next year and he had better pray he doesn't get hurt over the next two years. After that he'll be like 29 and won't be able to pick up a big deal anyway. Play hard ball. The Chiefs have all the leverage.

Available salary cap space for all 32 NFL teams
By Brian McIntyre
Published: July 1, 2012 at 10:58 a.m.

As we turn over the calendar to July, and with training camps opening in a few weeks, it's a good time to look at how much salary cap space remains for each team. According to a source with access to NFL salary cap data, AFC teams have $162,554,428 in available salary cap space, led by the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans, who are Nos. 1 and 2 in the league. (Don't think Maurice Jones-Drew and Josh Scobee haven't noticed where the Jaguars rank)

NFC teams have $111,397,452 in available cap space, led by the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, despite those two teams being among the league's big spenders this offseason.

With three teams in the Top 10, the AFC South has nearly $64 million in available salary cap space. Teams in the NFC West have a league-low $19,019,732 in available cap space. Here's how it all breaks down:

Jacksonville Jaguars: $25,115,885
Tennessee Titans: $19,970,080
Cleveland Browns: $17,774,764
Kansas City Chiefs: $16,548,048
Cincinnati Bengals: $16,309,693
Philadelphia Eagles: $15,879,570
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: $15,740,231
Indianapolis Colts: $14,595,514
Green Bay Packers: $11,255,804
Denver Broncos: $10,878,461
New England Patriots: $10,873,988
Minnesota Vikings: $10,595,534
Carolina Panthers: $8,769,801
Seattle Seahawks: $7,470,071
Buffalo Bills: $7,382,319
Dallas Cowboys: $7,188,021
Washington Redskins: $6,970,162
New York Jets: $6,044,153
Arizona Cardinals: $4,552,576
Miami Dolphins: $4,458,211
Houston Texans: $4,053,256
Chicago Bears: $3,976,700
Detroit Lions: $3,775,829
Pittsburgh Steelers: $3,734,063
St. Louis Rams: $3,602,486
San Francisco 49ers: $3,394,599
New York Giants: $3,119,114
San Diego Chargers: $2,862,095
Atlanta Falcons: $2,834,873
New Orleans Saints: $2,272,081
Oakland Raiders: $1,347,040
Baltimore Ravens: $606,858

The figures above do not include the recent signings of Falcons safety Chris Hope, Vikings defensive end Jeff Charleston or Saints third-round defensive tackle Akiem Hicks, each of which is expected to have minimal impact on their respective teams' current cap situation.

Looking through NFL free agents I don't see anyone that would be an improvement for the Chiefs.

They can use some of that money to sign Dontari Poe *, extend Branden Albert (2013 free agent), sign Jovan Belcher to a longer term contract, and still have money for any other 2012 roster changes.

*Fletcher Cox, the 2012 12th pick, is costing Philadelphia around $1,862,000 against the 2012 cap, so Poe might be between $2 million to $2.5 million when his contract is complete.

That's true, Bowe's contract is another consideration for the Chiefs.

Bowe's $9.5 Million Franchise Tag amount is already figured into the $16,548 surplus. Hopefully when KC and Bowe reach an agreement, it won't cost the 2012 cap too much more.

Right now the largest cap hits for WRs for 2012...

Larry Fitzgerald $13,250,000
Vincent Jackson $13,000,000
Dwayne Bowe $9,515,000
Wes Welker $9,515,000
Brandon Marshall $9,300,000
Santonio Holmes $9,250,000
Sydney Rice $9,000,000
Calvin Johnson $8,950,000
Roddy White $8,025,000
Greg Jennings $7,947,500

There are probably going to be some decent players available, that get cut or released from some teams that we could sign for decent backup roles. So I guess this is a good thing.

Which brings up another question. What positions do we need to be looking for when the time comes?

Maybe we are saving money to pay Drew Brees when we trade for him?

is the 9 million for Bowe already included since he hasn't signed the tender?

if not the 15 turns to 6 and some of that 6 probably goes to Poe
