Belichick is no saint. I can read the list. From cheating on his wife to being the world's biggest sore loser, to the idiocy of Spygate. But I honestly think you're wrong about Welker. He offered him 2 at $10. His agents were telling him he would get like $8 per. Denver ultimately ends up paying him 2 at $6, hardly a meaningful difference to be honest. When Welker said no, and that he was moving on, the Pats immediately went out and got their next selection, Amendola. Dont' believe me? How about Tom Curran. Quote:

You don't seem to understand. The NET is cap savings. Now, of course, you're down a player and have dead money on the cap, and still need a warm body to play that guard position, but still, they save money on the cap by getting rid of him.

Don't know who calls the Pats perfect. Certainly not me. I can list all the bad draft picks and FA signings for you if you want... Belichick the GM hasn't done Belichick the coach too many favors over the last few years, though it was '06-'09 that really were sour, draft-wise.

Ok. Your original post was, to me, misleading/confusing. Saying you take a $4 million cap hit suggest to me that that is the NET number, after all adjustments. The actual net number is the opposite. Cap savings.

I understand perfectly well. They just took a cap hit because of the acceleration of the deal. You choose to spin that. I choose not to. That's really the difference here.

Really? That's spin? I added more information which gives a truer picture of what's going on. You ignored one piece to the puzzle, so that the net effect is cap savings.

That's spin. And, as far is adding more information goes, you didn't bother noting that Mankins base salary coming off the books is partially offset by his replacement's salary, meaning the numbers you gave were incorrect. |

Mankins' 2015 total salary cap figure went from $11 million to $4 million (dead money) because of the trade. His 2016 cap number went from $7 million to zero. Should Patriots fans be "panicked" about our team's cap situation for next year and the year after as a result of this event, as you seem to be suggesting?

I believe a team can use 1 exemption per year and treat the traded player's cap number like a cut. cap hit options: current year - next year 100-0% 40-60% 50-50% 60-40% 0-100% not positive about this
