John Dorsey and the Eric Berry decision

Yet another reason I think John Dorsey was the best GM the Chiefs have ever had is that he seems to be proven right about this team so far when it came to the Eric Berry deal.

Eric Berry cost this team a gigantic chunk of change -- and he's well worth it. He's the best safety in the league and a true locker room leader and the face of the franchise.

I forget where I read it, but wasn't it a rumor that the Berry negotiations were a huge sticking point with Clark Hunt getting worn down on Dorsey?

Berry wanted a massive payday, and Dorsey was balking, on the verge of letting him go. It got to the point, so say the rumors, that Berry wasn't even talking to the team until Clark himself had to step in.

Well, what if Dorsey hadn't paid Berry? And let Berry walk?

Seriously, I'm asking.

Berry played a magnificent game against Gronk, but the Chiefs are 4-0 without him, stifling Wentz, Rivers, Cousins, and Watson.

Obviously we're only 5 games into the season, but isn't John Dorsey looking like he's been proven correct on this call so far?

EDIT: Can a mod fix my thread title? Please and thank you.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

My take in the NFL wanted Berry's face all over those 6 prime time games...
Yeah I thought about waiting for him to come out and talk to him. He doesnt want to be bothered on a sunday night gas station run.

It's not as if they've played the dregs of the league or backup qbs.
Watson is a rookie with 3 career games and he threw 5 touchdown passes to two WRs on like 6 catches. If Berry is out there half those big plays get negated. The fact this offense is playing so wel is covering up a lot of issues

Oh I see CP is back to underrating Eric Berry. It's funny how that happens when he's not in the games every week blowing up the running game and picking off passes and putting the fear of God into wide receivers and negating tight ends.

Four weeks without him and it's all what does he really do to justify that contract again?

If you want to give them an excuse that the defense relaxes on these big leads and gives up points, thats fine. But if they keep doing that eventually a good QB will make them pay for it.

Theyre still not "stiffling" anyone or shutting anyone down. Alex is doing his best Trent impresssion and leading an offense we havent seen since 2003.
its called playing prevent. In a prevent defense, the offense is giving everything underneath. The problem was, Watson basically just chucked up 2 hail mary's and their WR's out-jumped our Defensive backs. It usually doesnt happen like that. It happened though.

They basically had 3 garbage time td's

I am still very very concerned with the decision to part from Dorsey. With not knowing how much Reid influenced draft picks Dorsey deserves a huge amount of credit for this teams success this year and the past. I sincerely hope that Veach is every bit of what they say because there is no doubt Dorsey had a above average, close to elite eye for talent.

It still remains to be seen but I still don't like the move.

Agreed. And IF he was that integral in all the draft picks he will be the hottest commodity come this off season for a lot teams where he can write his own contract.

I agree, which is why we probably should just go with a 4 man rush instead of a 3 man in those situations. Zero pressure at all gives time for the WRs to get in position for those jump balls. Make him toss them early and it won't be just a pure jump ball anymore.

You mean "defense" i.e. to the bold.
