Can someone help me as well???
I went to upgrade to a free windows 10 and after reading some of the agreement etc decided **** it and declined to go back to 7.I'm now getting a message that I may be the victim of software counterfeiting and that my windows 7 is not "genuine". I recently had a place rebuild me a system that was 7,does this mean they used a counterfeit or am I into something more?

When you reinstalled 7 you need to put in the Windows Code. It won't affect your computer if you don't have it other than turn your screen black and give you annoying messages. You can manually enter in the code depending on the age of the computer. New computers like to put the Windows Code in the BIOS and you have to use the right install of Windows 7 that works with that BIOS code. You can manually change it with 3rd party software but it can be fun going that route. Long story short is Microsoft Code Licensing sucks and they are assholes. ![]() Edit - I just saw that you didn't actually install Windows 10 and reinstall 7. That's weird that it would of messed up your license code. If you have a service tag on your computer (black sticker or white sticker with codes on them) they use to put the activation code on that sticker. You can go to Control Panel/System and Security/System and see the Windows Activation. That is the little code that you are sending to Microsoft so they can make sure your not stealing their software. Last edited by Nirvana58; 02-01-2016 at 12:08 PM.. |

Yikes dude. That's horrible. It depends on what kind of password protection they applied. If it's just a new password on your current Windows account, you can reset by several methods. But if he used something like SysKey, you might be ****ed. Can you post a pic of what the password unlock screen looks like?
Also, are you able to choose Repair option when you boot up to the Safe mode boot screen. If you can, are you able to cancel the auto repair and do a System Restore? If you have previous restore points, I'd go back to a restore point before this happened. Of course the douche could have deleted all previous restore points if he had access to the machine.

after restoring it to yesterday (the restore screen did not show any earlier set points hemust have deleted the earlier ones because there were a bunch last night) the pc will boot, asking for a password and then continue to boot after i hit enter a couple of times or enter my real password (which i never knowingly put on the pc)...
but it boots into safe mode with networking, can't get it to start normally... i pressed the print screen key at the password screen, but i don't know to display the image or post it on cp... |

Wait, what? It's continues after just hitting enter with a blank password? And it accepts a password you've never put on the PC? That ain't right.
When in the boot process does it pop up? Does the prompt look like this: ![]()

Boot up the machine, while tapping the F8 key. Get to the boot options. See if you can select Boot normally instead of booting in Safe mode.

and it's weird, it was being quite random about the password/sign-in thing, but now it boots without any sign-in screen at all - but only into safe mode... |

Open the Start Menu, and type msconfig in the command bar. Run msconfig. Under System Configuration, find the Boot listing. Make sure Safe Boot is not checked.
