Football message boards in the 80's?
Forgive my ignorance but I had no clue people were talking on boards in the mid 80's. Here's a post of a guy explaining how the Pats are gonna defeat Chicago in the Super Bowl dated 86. https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!...ll/MUAb4NqwwFk. Sorry for the sloppy formatting but I'm at work so go here and look around https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!...sport.football

To me, it's almost more amazing that newsgroups still exist.

Back in 1988 they had to mail in their post to the newspaper and then wait for others to reply the following week.

There was an insane argument going on the write-in section of the Overland Park Sun about what kind of car would Jesus drive. You can't believe the fervor with which those OP moms wrote scathing letters.
Then someone won the whole thing by quoting Acts 15:25 "It seemed good unto us, being assembled with one Accord" |

I remember the Meltdown on CP back in 1989
"Why Derrick Thomas when Broderick Thomas still on the board????" "He's a maxed out player!!""

Some of the earliest people communicating on the Internet were academics talking about pro wrestling in the late 80s.

I'm still upset that they deleted my thread about how quickly people would resort to cannibalism in a catastrophe. It was a good topic that deserved more participation.

I do remember that the first Buccaneers MB type of thing I belonged to was in 1992. It was news group type of thing run by the Buccaneer magazine.

If you weren't at a university or a government facility, there was no Internet. There was Fidonet and Altnet and a few other smaller "nets", but it was all local, dial-up based and the messages in echoes were transferred to a hub in the middle of the night when long distance rates were lowest.
