Football message boards in the 80's?

Forgive my ignorance but I had no clue people were talking on boards in the mid 80's. There was an insane argument going on the write-in section of the Overland Park Sun about what kind of car would Jesus drive. You can't believe the fervor with which those OP moms wrote scathing letters.

Then someone won the whole thing by quoting Acts 15:25

i was gonna say. around 95-96, i belonged to 'metropolis bbs', i think it was owned at the time by the pitch. not sure.

In the 80s I had bought my daughters a commodore 64 but had no idea how use it myself.

If you weren't at a university or a government facility, there was no Internet. There was Fidonet and Altnet and a few other smaller "nets", but it was all local, dial-up based and the messages in echoes were transferred to a hub in the middle of the night when long distance rates were lowest.
