Alex Smith will throw 25 Tds to Wide Receivers this year

Chiefs | Alex Smith being asked to go deep

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 19:37:53 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs QB Alex Smith has been asked to take more shots down the field this season. "I like where Alex is," offensive coordinator Doug Pederson said. "But now in the spring, we want to see any quarterback shoot the ball down the field and at least test it. That gives him the comfort level the next time he's in that situation."

Fantasy Tip: Whether or not Smith will be effective throwing the ball down the field remains to be seen, but with Jeremy Maclin in town to provide a deep threat, just taking an occasional shot should help free up Jamaal Charles a bit more.

Chiefs | De'Anthony Thomas preparing for new role

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 17:15:46 -0700

Kansas City Chiefs WR De'Anthony Thomas has shed weight in order to maximize his speed as he transitions from running back to wide receiver. "I just got a lot stronger and I feel like I'm good right now where I'm at," Thomas said. "I weigh about, probably, 167."

We better have a major OL improvement.

Smith has never had a 1,000 yd WR other than Crabtree...but that was the year Kaep started to take over at QB, so not all of Crabtree's production came from Smith.

He just simply doesn't get them the ball as often as he does TE's and RB's. There's a reason he's called Captain Checkdown in SF. He's not a rookie or 1-yr starter...He's a 10-yr vet coming into his 11th season. Basically what we see is what we're gonna get from AS, he's not going to get any better, he is what he is.

I just hope this Aaron Murray experiment pays off somehow. This team has hilariously ignored the QB position for damn near 3 decades. I know its like beating a dead horse around here but if you stop to think about that, it's pretty funny considering it's the game's most important position. I guess the Chiefs didn't get the memo when the league transformed into primarily a passing league.

Agreed. Earlier I said I was hoping for this... but the more I think about it, seems too high. Oline, Conley and Wilson still for all intents and purposes still unknowns, and Smith's own conservative nature, 4k & 30 would seem to be a stretch. (not that I'm still not hoping for it).

Whatever the numbers are, I do think the offense has a much better chance at being a very effective offense - much more so than last year. Should be a fairly balanced team if the Oline can be middle of the road effective, and the WR2 and 3 can be solid contributors.

When you're throwing to guys like this, I don't blame Smith for going to TEs and RBs instead.

The WR + TE crew on KC is most similar to 2012 49ers but maybe better.

Smith was on pace for a 30 TD season if you project 500 passes

Maclin is a better version of Crabtree
Kelce looks like a potential better TE than Vernon Davis
Wilson could be a Manningham type
Chris Conley could be a old Randy Moss type. He was only a small role WR. 3 targets per game.
Delanie Walker and Kyle Williams were physical talents more than polished guys and in certain situations were likely to get open and both got over 15 per catch.
Those are roles DAT and hopefully Da'Rick can step into.
Jamaal obvious pass game bigger threat than Frank Gore.
