frickin dog question

so, the son and his wife went to some kind of money managing class. they came up with a plan on how to get out of debt and build a new house(i'm 57 and never been out of debt). anyway, the main part of the plan is for them and the 3 grandkids to move in w/the wife and i. actually, no biggie...grandkids usually stay w/us every weekend, and we know they're going to get older and not want to come out as much. life.

so, they sell their house and move in w/us 2 weeks ago. everything seems to be working fine, except the 3 dogs they brought w/them. used to living in a fenced in yard and sleeping in the house. i've got 30 acres for them to run wherever they want, but they seem to be happiest laying on the wifes ****in patio furniture. holler, scream, shake a stupid can w/rocks in it(dumbest idea of all), to no avail. the wife went to town and bought some spray shit for $40 and sprayed it all over the furniture saturday. yesterday morning...yep, they're laying on the patio furniture. she sprayed it again, but i know they'll be back.

so...surely some of you guys/gals have experienced this before and have a solution besides antifreeze and/or bullets? they're pretty cool dogs, really, but the wife is driving me ****in nuts over this.

suggestions?

Yeah, but what happens if the dog doesn't realize it's supposed to go back to the yard to stop getting shocked? It's gonna panic pretty hard and just run wild until the shocking quits. Which could lead to your dog not knowing how to get back to the house or being scared of approaching the house. You'd have to put in some manual time training the dog for that to work.

A week with the electric fence stopped the male boxer, once getting zapped stopped the rott. Nothing stops the female boxer. But she can jump the four foot fence just standing next to it so when she's on a run she never slows down. Six foot fence? At a full run she can catch her front paws at the top and vault right over it. Crazy thing about it? She just sits on the other side of the fence and looks at the other dogs. So I said **** it and let her get out and then someone lets her in the front door. She never leaves my grass. It's hilarious.

Just run an elec. fence . Cheap, easy, works fine. Keeps dogs in and out.

When I first saw this, I thought "I doubt that will work". However, after looking into it more, I think this may be the solution. I really only need it along the front of our yard, where the other dogs can be seen, and it looks like I can just attach it to the existing fence posts with insulators. I don't have to loop the entire yard this way or deal with with collars and batteries. Plus it will shock the neighbors dog if it tries to dig in.

I'm thinking about something like this: http://a.co/1LRBFC8

The only issues are if our sandy soil would provide enough grounding and if it would hurt our cats. They don't normally go out the front but I would want to be sure.

Thanks for the suggestion.

They ate the hell out of weeds around my pond and brush on the edge of the woods but it wasn't worth the headache of those fence busting sonnabitches.
There's a small herd of four goats that wonder around the outskirts of the north end of C-Town. At one point the animal control officer told the old codger that owns them that if he didn't pen them the city would round them up and haul them away. The old codger reportedly just laughed and said, "Ok, good luck with that." That was four years ago and I still see them roaming around from time to time.

Hope it wasn't a rooster...On a side note why wasn't she "fixed"? And don't tell me because she wasn't broke.

Seriously, sorry this is on your doorstep.

I have a thing like it in my front yard to let my old dog out. He takes forever to shit and he will try to sneak around to the back of the house if he thinks you aren't paying attention. I did have a spastic stray puppy for a while. She actually would back up as far as possible and then run full speed at the cable and under it to the end of the leash. So hard that she would lift herself off the ground. She broke the hardware on three cable set ups doing that. I found her a new home as quickly as I could.
