Christmas and Easter are not important to me. Birthdays are not that important. Screw Mother's Day and other Hallmark holidays. New Years and the Fourth of July can both take a hike... there is ONE day that means a shit ton to my family and that is Thanksgiving. We aren't religious people nor are we conspicuous consumers. We are simply people who appreciate the opportunity to take ONE HOLIDAY that means something by it's simplicity and it's gratitude to spend time with each other watching football, eating great food, and being thankful for the many, many blessings we have. Sure, I like to encourage that behavior every day but to have one day where we do it as a family, community, country is truly special. It's really very sad our country has lost this and what is worse is that, as the generations age, the expectation of it from younger generations will be gone some day as well.

So yes, we should be thankful for our jobs. But that doesn't mean we should be happy when these kinds of things are done, in my opinion, very insensitively. |

They hurt themselves overall... I remember back in the 80's I worked for this trucking company and for thanksgiving or christmas (cant remember which) we always got this canned ham that probably cost 5 bucks or so in bulk like they bought them, well they decided one year instead of getting that canned ham for us to give us this big nasty memo posted on the employees wall that said haw bad we done this year, need to do better, blah blah blah... Every driver figureed out a way to get atleast what that ham costed, some people slid rubber off the tires, some took and extra half hour at lunch etc. Drivers would walk by you and ask.. Did you get your ham today? and everybody would say yes. |

When the economy is the way it is, Corps have the advantage, when the economy is strong, the worker has the advantage... I go to work, mind my business and I go home... Don't have to deal with the public, Don't really have to answer to anyone unless I fail to get the loads from point a to point b in a timely manner or wreck. I assume others don't have it like this but this is how it is for me. |

Same thing.
BUT In my experience with those types of jobs, before you're ever even hired they make you quite aware that you are guaranteed to work most holidays... Shit, when I was 16 the movie theater made us work 2 out of 3 Christmas/Thanksgiving/New Years... So honestly, they were aware of Holiday work before ever signing that dotted line. So yes, I feel sorry for them they can't spend time with their families over the holidays but I do not feel sorry about them having jobs in this economy...especially when many grocery store workers don't have any prior work experience, or have misdemeanors, or have felonies...at least they get a paycheck. (and I'm sorry if that was a stereotype I'm not trying to be an asshole just realistic) |

I worked Christmas Eve at a restaurant back in college...we were the only restaurant that stayed open. We expected there to be no crowd. We got slammed. I made $450. Merry Christmas.

Those complaining about working should watch the Georgia food stamp video.
