Indeed. As I understand it - the employees needed to be in Louisville the next AM. Now, growing up in Louisville, I can tell you that it is about a 4 hour drive from Chicago to Louisville. Hell, send the employees in a van. Or, take one of the other flights leaving for Louisville.

This is going to cost United (and rightfully so) millions of dollars in revenue and probably another million or two in the lawsuit that will most certainly follow. The hell of it? It could have been easily taken care of (as you pointed out).

Honest to God - I would rather take an ass whipping than fly these days.

To save a few hundred dollars they created hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars in cleanup. Seems like a good practice. It's basic economics that they would eventually find a price someone would have gladly accepted

They should have kept upping the offer until someone said SOLD! I mean, I'm guessing someone would have volunteered at around $1500... the other incentive United could have announced is that the sooner someone volunteers, the sooner the flight can depart.
