They weren't a bad team lacking personnel. They were a poorly coached team with a head coach that quit mid-season and QB that made headlines and was incarcerated.

The core talent to be a decent team was there. Michael Turner was a beast and Dimitroff had a very good draft class that produced immediate contributors.

a "bad team" ??? RB Turner ran the rock 376 times that season and was voted all pro + probowl starter -- with Ryan's passing complimenting the run game, that is how they made the playoffs.

Ryan was good that first season, but leading the team to playoffs he did not.

Take a look for yourself;

Every game Turner had the burners going, Matt Ryan also did well. But, Ryan had several 1xx yard games that season and when you see Turner could only muster 60 yards during the playoff game, the whole thing folded for the Falcons.

So, no, Ryan did not carry a bad team to the playoffs. Turner carried a decent team to the playoffs and Matt had beginners luck run out at the most critical time -- during the playoff game.

24 points isn't bad for a team that can't run the ball.

it was really more lopsided than that -- Cards had them 28 - 17 fourth qtr and then they got Ryan for a safety, making the score 30 - 17. Ryan's last TD was garbage time, really. The Falcons never led that game. Turner scored early, but Ryan had two costly INT's in spite of the two TD's he threw.

Beginners luck?

Matt Ryan has been about as consistent as any quarterback in the league over the last 5 years and is total QBR as a rookie was within 3 points of what it was last year.

His 75 rating as a rookie would be good enough for fourth in the NFL last year.

Anyone that would expect more than that out of a ****ing rookie quarterback should go to the kids table.

Ryan is a fantastic player. Koetter is the catalyst for their post season loss last year, imo.

If the history of superbowl winning QBs holds up going forward (and it has to this point) Matt Ryan has a much better chance of winning a superbowl that Cam Newton.

He may not have the physical gifts of a Cam Newton, but as far as leadership, football smarts, poise and ability to win games...there aren't many better than him.

Until Cam gets brought down to earth and realizes it's a team game a d stops being a selfish player and teammate, he will win NOTHING.
