5th Doctor revisited
The Fifth Doctor Revisited!
By Meredith Burdett, May 7, 2013 The celebration of the Doctor in the United States continues this month with the screening of the Fifth Doctor classic Earthshock, which will be shown directly after Doctor Who: The Doctors Revisited – The Fifth Doctor. The special broadcast will look at the Davison era of Doctor Who and the radical changes that the show went through in the early 1980’s after the departure of Tom Baker as the Fourth Doctor. Taking part in the retrospective documentary will be Peter Davison (the Fifth Doctor), Steven Moffat (Current Doctor Who show runner), Hugh Bonneville (2011’s The Curse of the Black Spot and A Good Man Goes to War), Sarah Sutton (Nyssa), Mark Strickson (Turlough) and many others. There will also be a look at the returning villains for Davison’s first series as the Doctor namely the Master and the Cybermen, the latter of which had a massive design overhaul for the first time in 7 years for their big reappearance in Doctor Who, not unlike what will be happening this Saturday in Nightmare in Silver. The Davison era has many parallels with the current Smith era: a young Doctor, bold new adventures, rich and varied storytelling, and a major anniversary event during both tenures! If, for some inexplicable reason, you’ve never watched Earthshock or a making-of documentary on the Fifth Doctor years, then you should tune into to BBC America to find out what all the fuss has been about. Doctor Who: The Doctors Revisited – The Fifth Doctor premieres Sunday, May 26, 8:00pm ET/PT on BBC America. http://www.kasterborous.com/2013/05/...tor-revisited/

PS- I liked the 5th Doctor and thought he got a raw deal from fans that could not accept anyone replacing Tom Baker. Because of this he had a pretty short stint as Doctor.

Gaiman Wants to Bring Back the Yeti Published May 12, 2013 16 doctor-who-yetiIf Neil Gaiman returns for Series 8, he has his sights set on bringing back the Yeti. The monsters first appeared in second Doctor story, The Abominable Snowmen, originally broadcast in 1967. They came back the following year in The Web of Fear and were controlled by the Great Intelligence. He told Collider: “In my head, I love that the Great Intelligence has come back, but I miss the Yeti. I would love to have huge shambling robotic Yeti, just because I loved them when I was a kid. So, I would love to do that. That would be wonderful. But he also wants to create his own iconic monster: “I’d love to create a monster, and have it be one that’s interesting enough or fun enough to come back, written by somebody else, or turn up completely reinvented. I’d love to do that and have the feeling that you’d actually left something behind. I think that’s hard. I love that Terry Nation left us the Daleks, and I love that Kit Pedler and Gerry Davis left us the Cybermen. As before, Gaiman’s admits the biggest problem with coming back is finding time in his schedule: “The trouble with everything, these days, for me, is time. There is only one me. There are a ridiculous number of demands on my time. There are so many things I’m trying to do. It’s so much more about when I’m going to get time to do it, if I get time. I think they’ll have me back. They seem to like me at Doctor Who, and I know that I definitely like them. “ |

I can't stand the current Doc.
I gave it 5 eps after Tennant (my favorite of the new series) and he just annoys me. I keep thinking someone gave Marty McFly a sonic screwdriver...

Well, it looks like there's a chance this is his last season.

Well, that was cool. The very end left me a little confused, though.
I really liked the explanation of why Clara keeps showing up in The Doctor's travels.
Spoiler!

Damn that was pretty awesome.
The end was the setup for the 50th anniversary special, and the first acknowledgement that John Hurt's playing one of the (previously unknown) incarnations of the Doctor. Who he is or what he did I guess we'll find out in November. |

http://www.denofgeek.com/tv/doctor-w...th-anniversary
ere's 90 seconds of Matt Smith and David Tennant chatting about Who's 50th anniversary, with brief mention of "another character"... Billed as a thank you to fans for keeping Doctor Who's secrets, the BBC has released a clip of the tenth and eleventh (well, as it stands, er, stood... appreciating that we don't know... as long as... I mean, supposing that... oh, I give up) Doctors chummily discussing what it's like to be the face of the show, and how their characters rub along together in the 50th anniversary special. Of particular interest is the exchange at the end of the clip, in which Matt Smith brings up "another character in there who we can't really talk about". Anyone who's seen the final four minutes of The Name of the Doctor will know just who he means. According to Smith, that character and the actor playing him, spent much of his time on set "rather wonderfully bemused". That makes a few million and one of us then. |
